Sooooo How much bodywork is required for a car to go on the road? Would be a good lerl to roll round in this as is. Maybe a little drafty.

I'm back on this idea again.

    What happened about this @cletus

can I put an open speedster body using the original scuttle and bonnet and not have to worry about cert? Mechanicals are original.

  2. Going to upgrade the brakes on my 260C. Seeing @kicker used S12W calipers with success that's my first port of call. On tard there's a set off an 06 hilux but they're stamped S12waa. Is there any difference? I'll have to use adapter plates because the plan is to use 13" mustang discs so bolt pattern is not a worry.

wife has given me a deadline of 5 months for it to be back on the road or sooner, "not like your other cars" she said. Don't know what she's talking about, the've only been in the garage 13 years.

HAHAHA always good having a deadline. Crowns been off the road since Christmas 2016. Don't think, just act. It will work out eventually.

    Jesus.

Guess it mostly comes down to how much a piston set costs,  and in his case an oil pump.

That seems like insane money. And I used to work at an engine rebuilers....

Crank got ground and a few rods had to be resized. In hind sight a 1jz probably would have been a better idea. I've also had to buy a lot of new shit for it.

I think that one is in line to be worked on by a coach builder in CHCH... prob the only 330 coupe in NZ..

The coachbuilder is the owner of it. He's a mate of mine. We cut up a shell to use as rust cuts for that car and mine. Sills are being made at the moment. Apparently it's one of only 2 330 coupes that came to nz and the other one has been MIA for 20 odd years.

Hi Bling, some very good valid points there, however the $842 was just for the oil pump. The bill so far just to do - bore block, crank grind, new piston/ring, main/big end brgs, oil pump is $2293. I would still need to address the fact that the camshaft is worn, along with the followers, water pump will need replacing, surface head, cut valves etc. I'll go into this a bit further in the build thread I'm about to start. Cheers

Usually bank on 1K per hole plus another grand. So 5k for a good job on a 4 banger. I think nearly  6k has been spent on the 1GGE for the GS126V Crown.

heres the picture of the LD28 I put into my Landrover Series 3 swb. Don't ask why I mostly painted the engine red, it was 28 years ago. Can you still get LD28's? Maybe I should get one for my sons Discovery 1 V8. Cheers

They are available though will be more worn than they were 28 years ago. I've seen a few on tard ranging from $50 to $1.3k. @- i5oogt - and I have a few between us. I think you need to go for a ride in his LD28T 260C.

  8. Firstly I'm obliged to inform you that an LD28 turbo is the best way. Second Don't forget to add the cost of Low Volume Cert and potentially someone to wire the EFI in. An SR20DE or 3SGE would be something to consider. Readily available and good bang for buck. 1UZs rank low in my books due to cost of parts to make it manual and increase performance. They have a rather pooz power output for their size but thats because they're designed as a cruiser engine rather than a powerhouse. I think @yoeddynz put a 12A rotary in one too.

Was there a practical reason for casting his own wheels? sizes not available here or something? These days virtually nobody would consider casting their own wheels for a race car!!!!

A lot of people tend to forget that back in the 60s NZ was in the middle of butt fuck nowhere. It still is but technology has reduced that gap artificially (not a good way of explaining it but anyway). For craftsmen it was cheaper easier to make performance parts for their race cars rather than mail order from the states or UK.  A couple good examples are the Chain drive Stanton Corvette and the Silvester V8 coupes inlet manifold and carbs.

  10. On a carb setup the release valve if for the case of a backfire so the 1L plenum of fuel charge doesn't turn into a grenade or damage the supercharger with a massive back pressure. I've seen a video of a type 35 Bugatti being given a good squirt at night. There was fire spitting out the exhaust and out the hole in the bonnet which the release valve pokes through. The Delage GP car that was out at the Skope classic apparently has hydrauliced on an occasion due to flooding and the fuel pooling in the blower.
