  1. Roughest house on the street mate . Prob worse when I was doing plug chops on the FA, that thing screamed...
  2. So spent the day playing with the kids at home on it (wife even had a ride). Discovered in low ratio I can get into top on the circuit round the elm tree on the front lawn and get a good lean on... Then got cocky, went for a blat to a mates place to do another GPS speed test, and she let me down... Obviously not ready for epic road trip yet, just started missing at full throttle, and progressively got worse till I was stranded, gave me my workout for the day, but I've pushed far heavier bikes. Still had good spark when back in shed so thinking fuel related. hoped was blocked filter but was the same on reserve (got filter in each line). Plan is Brass Monkey this year on it, looking at overland route so will get it sorted before then...
  3. Oooh possibly, hadn't considered that. But then if I get it regoed I'll probably take it to work, and I quite like blinkers when in traffic, they're out to get you as it is...
  4. Nah 19mm. Same dimensions (35mm inlet) but everything on the wrong side so fuel tap and choke foul on main frame tube. Got all excited seeing it on Ali and forgot to check things like that...
  5. Ah good to know, might try jetting it up when I've got it sorted. found a few rattles and leaks after taking the kids for a blat round the paddock...
  6. Haven't posted for a while. The engine was running but hunting a bit so I bought an Ali carb that was perfect in every way, except for most of the bits being on the wrong side, so I bought another one on ebay that had fuel tap and choke on LHS. Mocked it up this morning and found it was shorter than the original and the air filter hose wouldn't fit, so made up a spacer from scrap alloy... Bit of filing and sanding on a flat surface... And a pic of the carb, amazed you can buy one of these for the price of a rebuild kit. Quite pleased with the fit, and just cut a paper gasket for the non o-ring side before fitting. Yet to see if a new Chinese one better then an original Japper... And she's away. Wouldn't start till I flicked choke off then it started immediately and settled into a nice tickover. Took it for a ride, and I was highly disappointed with performance, till I realised the speedo was in miles, then I was only medium disappointed. These are not a rocket. Got max of 80kmh on GPS, and any hill or headwind drops that off markedly. Still, first time I've ridden one and it's MUCH faster than the old FA I spent ages trying to get to 60. Man it's noisy though, gonna need earplugs for any decent ride... Now just got taillight and indicators/mirrors to sort and will think about getting it road legal...
  7. Thred dredge, reminded of this when looking at Left to Rot page. Think the bloke's name is Tony van Vliet (sp?) and he works at the Challenge garage Ranfurly if anyone wants to contact him...
  8. These things bend pushrods about as often as they break doorhandles. No idea if that could lock it up or not? Pulled one of mine, hammered it straight, carried on for yonks...
  9. Yeah thought of this thread the other night too while watching telly in the crib. Never realised the Terminator movie was sooo 80's... Think Sarah's scoot was a Honda Elite. Want one, not too sure on the high waisted strides and poodle perm to go with it.
  10. Keeping it faded? Be a great little sleeper...
  11. My wife uses Ali express for phone covers etc, and when she opens it on our shared laptop items I have looked at come up. Clicking on things like this ^ must make her wonder what she's getting for xmas... [edit] Actually be worse if she sees it, doesn't say anything then doesn't get it... She already wonders what I get up to in the shed...
  12. I have never heard of them... Will have people guessing what it is, be interested to follow progress...

    .

I'd try a 3 pin 5V voltage regulator then (TO-220)? Costs all of around $2.30 at Jaycar (plus road trip to check it works)...

I'd be tempted to chuck an electronic 5V voltage regulator in at the sender to try that out. Just thinking as I type/tap though, do you actually have 12V at the sender rheostat? Maybe some voltage is lost at the gauge via a movement coil? Only had my sender apart couple of days ago funnily enough, never chucked voltmeter on it tho as was obviously a holed float and ohms were ok...
  15. Looks pretty cool, I'm liking the story. Being a Rover you need an old man hat to leave on the rear shelf. (Bought my mate one for his Leyland at the Gore Sally Op shop while on National P76 rally)...
  16. Curses, a shiny tank is now on my Ali wish list. Nice to see some progress...
  17. Just read whole build thread. Bloody well done, love seeing interesting old cars rescued. Cool shape wag too...
  18. Still haven't pulled motor for bottom end check, and considering it's running and nearly xmas I'll prob use it as-is till next year. No fuel gauge is a pain in the arse tho so killed some lawn today popping the sender unit out... I'd assumed the rheostat was koozed but it checked out fine, 10 to 100 ohms over full movement of the float, and all looked good... Then I realised the float was bloody heavy, yep holed - and so full of fuel it didn't slosh when shook. Put the hot air gun on it and had a cool fine jet of fuel spray out the very tiny pinhole. I SO wanted to light this... And rather than piss around all day trying to re-solder it I ordered a new one. Tried to find something I could rig at the wreckers but nothing really suitable. I'm still gonna pull the gubbins out and sort a few issues and lower the front etc (found puddle of fluid under trans today) but if I have a working fuel gauge I can just keep an eye on the oil and use it for a while while weather is good...
  19. IT'S ALIVE... Loosely assembled in these pics but the heart beats, and sounds great, nice bit of rort. Spent bloody ages chasing why no spark and seemed to be grease on the new points, bit of a swipe with 120 grit and some Brakleen and chocks away. Got her into top gear round the back yard, till told to shut up by kids as it was a tad noisy and they were in bed... Sorting rest of lectrics and adjusting clutch, brakes etc and should be good for her maiden voyage [musn't lose focus and move onto next project as tends to happen]...
  20. Oh pulling them apart is the easy bit. My shed full of shelved 2-wheeled projects bears witness. Cool bike tho, loadsa potential...
  21. Cool wee bike. Drums and nice tank badges, I also thoroughly approve. Nice work, enjoyed the colourtune pics, I've been tempted to try these myself.
  22. Please tell me you're not gonna fuck up that cool dash...
  23. So yeah was bothering me. Went home at lunchtime and sanded back the lumps... Hopefully next coat will be smooth enough to add decals if I decide to... [edit] Much gooder. Bit more prep and slightly more reducer and paint flowed much better. I also lightened it up a shade or two as I reckon it looked better when sanded. Seems gun wasn't blocked yesterday, just some doofus forgot about the air screw on the bottom, gave it a tweak after cleaning gun and things went much smoother. Course it was flowing so sweet I overlaid it and got a couple of drips. Fuck I'm hopeless at this paint thing, but good to practice on bits like this...
