  1. Frame Typical old trail bike, lots of bits missing or bodged, so tidied it up a bit... Just made up replacement tabs and welded them, then welded on captive nuts and tidied up some previous repair work... Will take for blasting next week and throw some paint on when weather allows...
  2. Brakes: The front caliper pistons were stuck. Really stuck. And because it is a pretty model-specific caliper there weren't many around. After compressed air failed I looked at swapping to another model caliper, then thought bugger it, nothing to lose, so drilled and tapped an M10 fine thread bolt to take a grease nipple, screwed that into the banjo bolt hole, then used a grease gun to push out the pistons (can get thousands of psi). Worked a treat... Some notes, pump grease through with bleed valve open to displace air first so you don't make a brake piston slug gun, and retain each piston with a c-clamp as you ease them out in turns so you don't blow one out and lose all pressure... Worked really well, would use this method again - cleaning out old grease was the biggest hassle, but Brakleen was half price at supercheap... Anyway, pistons cleaned up ok, and bought new caliper seals and a used master cylinder on eBay. Toyed with a cheap universal m/c but found the correct model for $24 so grabbed that instead. And now the waiting for parts begins...
  3. So, teardown and bagging things as they come off, fairly straight forward, noticed a few frame tabs missing and cable ties holding things together, and seems to have compression (of a sort). Managed to get it in bits and dispersed around the place pretty smartly to conceal purchase, and once down to the frame got the welder out for some patching. Bit hard not knowing what the missing bits looked like, but got there by looking at frame pics on the interweb. Plan is to get it blasted and spray with Durepox red epoxy as I have a tin of this left after doing up an old kids bike. Paint means I can make repairs/touch up when required rather than make sure all is perfect before powder coating...
  4. So despite having no money, multiple other projects, and house renovations to finish, I bought this recently, a 1985 Yammy TT250. Was watching a few old trailies on the tard when this one didn't sell, and he offered it at $350. Was local so I immediately pulled the trigger knowing nothing about it. Good things: it's a new bike project Plus, they're a decent old model, all plastics are there, overall in not bad shape, throws a spark, and suspension seems sound. Also eligible for VMX racing I believe... Bad things: front wheel fucked, seat cover ripped, no idea on condition of motor (has a patched hole in cyl head) front brake needs work, some plastics are cracked, and not a Honda (purely for parts availability)...
  5. 13th. Might be riding shotgun in the Leyland fanny-magnet again... * may actually = Barry magnet
  6. Tidying up today I made a holder for stubby coolers out of old drainpipe. Just slot em in the top and pull out the bottom when you feel like grabbing a frosty one... It's inside the garage door as bbq kept under the carport out there now. Would have put this outside beside bbq but would be a haven for spidies...
  7. I've been tempted to build one I could slide so's I could trial different length expansion chamber in road trials. Think getting back-pulse timing right is pretty important. Black magic stuff really...
  8. Be interested to see how that pipe goes, got some software somewhere that lets you put in your engine config and it spits out the optimum tuned pipe design. Never tried it yet.
  9. Dishwasher packed up again yesterday. Same fault, different drawer. Home sick so had a look. Yep, same heater element relay had burnt off same pin. Must be a common fault given both mine have done it... De-soldered and pulled relay, couldn't be arsed getting another relay from eBay so thought I'd try repairing it... Drilled out board where the short pin was to make room for my bodge fix... And soldered copper wire to very short stub on relay, fed thru hole and re-soldered other pins to board... Laid wire along track and soldered at couple of points... Seems to have worked, just done a cycle ok. Might buy me a few more months...
  10. Good base on the Remarks last Friday. Typical spring snow conditions. Little icy in the am, softened in the arvo sun but never got slushy. Coronet looked ok from up there.
  11. Buys a Hilman Hunter. Posts pics of it with drivers gloves draped across steering wheel. Complains about Barrys bothering him. OS.ng ...
  12. Hell yeah, army spec and you can join the re-enactment Barries shooting blanks at A&P shows...
  13. I'm boarding this week, and may be in Qtown next weekend so prob won't make this one. Riverton car show on again in Oct I see though, could be next event..?
  14. Oh. Don't google 'spit roast video' at work...
  15. Can't remember what mine are. One is Optimate Accumate 6/12V (cos 6V capability), think the other is an Oxford, has LCD display and car/bike selection options anyway...
  16. I bought a couple of expensive battery conditioners as was sick of replacing batteries coozed from sitting. Work great, but I stupidly tossed the old 'dumb' charger. Course the fancy-pants ones don't work when you've completely flattened your batt, so had to find another old school one to bring them back up to a level the brainiac chargers would work on...
  17. It's the details that make or break a build. So much good work is undone by a sloppy attachment or something that doesn't line up, one item can detract from the whole thing. Nice work...
  18. Partzilla. Once you find your model and have part numbers you can search eBay etc by those David Silver spares is a good honda one. [Edit] those are methods I've used for older bikes than yours.
  19. Good advice that, bad return paths cause lots of problems. Anything I build has earths solidly connected to bare metal each end, and a heavy duty braided strap between engine block and chassis...
  20. Thanks to those who replied. It cleaned up beaut. Been used but cared for, will crank it up when weather is a bit warmer...
  21. Anyone heard of/used Meiji guns? Picked one up today at the tip recycling shop. Saw 'Japan' and thought it seemed well made, and feels nice in the hand, prob better than the supercheap ones I'm using now? Has a 2.0mm tip , suction type with 1 litre cup so may be useful for primer? Really don't know if it's good or garbage but thought for $7 it was worth grabbing... Searched for info on MC model but seems it's too old to feature on the website. Will see how it looks after a clean and maybe give it a go...
  22. Ha, yeah the intention is for this to be the hobby workbench, for neat, clean assembly work purposes. Can see engines getting taking apart on it tho...
