Small steps? One bolt a day will soon have it parked outside the cert shop!

So what other interesting junk is sitting forgotten in your shed?

Tooling aint cheap! we have similar gear that prices in the home deposit area. I have a mate with the gear to make such cutters if that thing doesn't work out

Do go via golden bay, was the best part of bringing the Datsun home with quality beers and yarns -

Crikey, thats quite a bump from seaside bliss! I'm heading up for Leadfoot, likely able to assist with vehicle logistics if required? -

Are you shifting south? -
And nearly a year later...... Oil leak finally got to the point of Greenpeace protestors chaining themselves around the car..... Finally got around to setting up the electric winch I brought off @HKM400 ages ago, wish I had one of these since day one, engine removal was a breeze! Turned out the diff mount had been rubbing on the sump leaving quite a hole, once again the lada gods smiled as it also made a reasonable job of blocking the hole. With the engine out I modified the sump to have more clearance and TIGed up the hole in time for a trip to the hills. Always fun taking the Niva up into the snow Also surprising that i've put chains on it twice this year, that doubles the number of times its had chains in my ownership!

Yeah the shafts are different but that is all. (Actually I am not 100% on the splines, just the housings) The bonus if you can graft it in is ditching the pesky UJs for CVs -

Sad times to be parking away the Datsun, so glad we don't have road salt to worry about. I assume you're aware the diffs are the same as Subaru? I grabbed a bunch of magnetic plugs from the wrecker here for $5 -
I had much the same problem, I eventually installed new cylinders and have not been through the same issues, still unsure as to exactly why. Bore was in good condition, new seals and still leaked. Honed to be sure and new seals installed, leaked again, gave up and brought new cylinders.

M6 for sure That tie wire is a disgrace, is not that hard to do correctly. If any bolt came free and friction was reduced, there is nothing to hold it together, on track an expensive embarrassment, but for a road car i'd personally like a bit more more redundancy.
-
Sorting our brakes for a racecar that is intended to be certified and have been sent the front rotors to machine an adapter to suit the new hubs. Is this set up even legal, 6x M6 seems a little light? Are rotor adapters allowed/are there guidelines for material selection? There is no other mechanical connection other than the bolts, this seems like asking for trouble or is that normal? Please forgive the tie wire too, these were part of a stack of parts purchased but thankfully never raced.

That may be a false positive, timing light is just indicating a spark, not quality or at the right time. I do really like the setup though
-
My 2105 used to do that cos of a flogged out distributor shaft fucking with the spark timing at high revs
-
That machine is 600x600, depending on the requirements I often index longer parts and run them in sections. Mate's main machine is 1300x2500 What are you trying to make?
-
My datsun has pins from its past life as racecar, never been a wof issue Never been dick punched for them either
-
Moving pictures or diorama please
-
Asked a mate to carve out some foam core for a project, he declined as he didn't want the dust through his shed. He did however have a spare machine knocking about that I was welcome to make a mess in my own shed with! Gotta get me one of these toys, so simple and easy! Cores will be used for a carbon fibre rifle stock, hopefully pics to come.....

Really like working on bike motors, don't need lifting gear to get all the bits off! -
As far as OS goes, this thread is pretty PC
-
Throttle spindles wear out on those carbs, mega air leak down the shaft and you can never get a steady idle. Checking play is hard to do with the return springs in place, but if you hold it at half/full throttle and can give it a wiggle, chances are its time for a spendy rebuild

Yep, i'll pop along for a hello and a burger

tax some from ya neighbours for us please

Yes/No, I actually thought it would be a good way to size the system for cheap and then buy legit ones. The tapered threads on the Ali ones were that terrible, I doubt they would make a seal of any confidence
