Vintage Grumble
Shit yes, intake cover is a must for dirt tracking/I need to make something like that. WHEELIES.
Steelies
yeah it was way rich with the actual filter on, and i think i've run out of cheap tricks to control mixture. so the cover may get some sort of 'filter element' for peace of OCD
Steelies
well, tried to take this for another fang and ended up with a handfull of backfires, and a lunched, repaired and re-lunched pull start. wonder if comp is too high, or some sort of spark timing thing? kicker
As rookie mentioned in other thread, decomp would be sweet. Could be related to an issue the old Suzuki GS's had where the ignition is too advanced for the slow cranking speed, sometimes ignition would occur too early and the crank would reverse direction causing damage. I guess there might not be an easy way to retard the ignition for starting purposes though
Seedy Al
anything like a vintage car would be fine
Steelies
hhhmmm, yes. it's factory magic box ignition, i think the only way to adjust is to move the fly on the crank or move the coil which is bolted to the barrel casting. blech. apparently these motors love to move the flywheel. ah yeah i see about the slow cranking, it got a bit dicey trying to pull the handle faster, but only for one cycle.. to try and avoid full blown pull-to-stop on the second cycle. and the sound of starter bits falling through the casing. then they all stuck to the magnets and jammed shit up haha. fashioned recoil starter guts, of sorts, out of al plate and screws. fingers crossed. Steelies
ok, so it fired up after a bit of start procedure/zen moment, and then a few one-cycle pulls complete with kick backs. why does this make me think of no-start-give-ups in the rotorua sun. thegreatestben
Does it try yank you back and punch the bike when it fires as you pull? that's what my mates lawnmower did to me when it had eaten it's woodruff key and moved around 5°.

thegreatestben
Timing I think I've got photos on my old iphone. New key and it was beaut
kicker
If you had the bits and could be bothered, swapping to an old magneto like a Wico that has an impulse coupler in it would be sweet, it retards timing and spins the magneto faster for starting.
Rookie
I would seriously just put a decomp valve in the head, they work great on big saws and they are like $10. If the ignition is right for max powa then it os the only option imo.
Seedy Al
my guess is timing is set where ever god wanted it
Steelies
you're forgetting the other veloshit option rookie - keep fixing it and trying till you know how to do it gooder. managed to get a starting procedure that's pretty reliable, killing the spark is such a sweet luxury, can pretty much flood the shit out of it then start with a couple pulls. no doubt it'll pack up again as soon as it's racing time.
DodgySam
My old victa did this exact same thing. The timing was about 90deg out. Id look at the timing. Â My guess is if you sort that you will be away laughing.

Steelies
 will vid up soon, once i've figured the best way to tape a phone to me without it videoing the sky  yup timing, seems to be right on the edge and any slip is too much. maybe a flywheel sleeve horimod is required to back it off a touch. but runs great currently. definitely a mid-range llama curve  66kph on the burgerring test track, and super wobbly. must have used up all the rake in the other bikes cos this one seems to not have enough.  it loves throwing chains and mincing stuff whenever i take it to the drome, got a 5 metre ride on friday, full jam-up and went home to pull the gear hub apart. Seedy Al
are you hitting top gear at 66?
Steelies
i dont know haha, i got to top gear but couldnt bare to watch the speedo/not the road past 55. got sprocket options to put the gears up a bit, 1st is crawler as, so its probably a good idea.
