bathcollector
Who is the stereo whizz on here ? Back in 1984 I bought a Sony FH-7MKII home stereo. I couldn't afford the CD player at the time and I recently bought one off ebay. It is the correct model (CDP-7F) to go with my unit. The seller said it worked fine for him. I can't get it to go any less than full volume, zero to hero with some crackling. It has the switch on the back for 110-120 volts vs 220-240 volts, I have it on 220-240. Could the switch be not converting it to our rating or maybe something else crook. The stereo works fine on tuner/cassette and turntable volume wise so I have ruled out the stereo itself at fault. Any ideas ?? Thanks. Gary.
kws
I cant help you much, but i can tell you that if you switch it to 110v, or it isnt "converting to our rating" it would simply go pop and let the magic smoke out. Dont do that Could it be going into the wrong input on the stereo? Sometimes additional units like CD players were a line out, so werent volume controlled and had to have the volume controlled by the device that the sound was being processed through (an Amp usually). BTW a quick google, and thats a damn cool retro system.
kyteler
Looks like the CD player runs through the Phono switch, which makes me wonder about how it's setup as often Phono inputs offer different sound levels than other inputs. At least they have done on my amps.
bathcollector
It came with a twin wire cord that I have plugged in to the Phono jack. Maybe I need another cord to plug in to the CD/AUX socket in the front of the unit ?
kicker
Ya, amps with built in phono stage will amplify the bejeezus out of anything you feed into it. Use any other input and should be sweet.
bathcollector
Thanks guys. I rustled out the instructions this morning and see now there is another cord to plug in to the CD/AUX socket on the front. Gotta find the right one now ? cubastreet
Nice, I have a FH-15 but there's no way I could have afforded it new with my $10/week after school job. Looks like a 1/4" socket for CD in? In which case you'll need a RCA -> 1/8" cord which is common, plus a 1/8 - > 1/4" headphone adapter.
bathcollector
Yep, 1/4" plug in. Looks like an RK-81A Sony piece. I paid $1800-00 with a pair of 150 W technics speakers back in 1984. It is a grouse little stereo.
