That's awesome. Would they still allow you to run magnesium suspension bits though?

Also, i'd forgotten about updating this thread.

I took a punt on that being the only piece of rubber in the engine, I ran many, many sumpfulls of oil through the galleries and strained it all as it went back into the sump. Nothing else came out, so took a gamble and decided to put it back together.

While it was apart I chucked it some valve stem seals, camshaft friction gear/Belville washers, head/rocker cover/other associated gaskets, cambelt, tensioner and idler, auxiliary belts, a clutch master cylinder (because it looked like it was weeping and it's a lot easier without the intake manifold in the way), new oil control plugs, and some oil cooler heat exchanger hoses - they go soft after 20 years soaking in oil from the leaking rocker cover gaskets/oil pressure sender and then spray coolant everywhere. Most people don't realise or stop the car, all the coolant disappears, it overheats and then it's off to Zebra...

Impressed with the hone marks still visible in the bores, and the general cleanliness of the insides of the engine. Thankfully this one looks like it's had semi-regular maintenance...

Gave it some fresh fluids too, and installed the original springs in the rear.

Lots of shiny new bits to go in

Big spanner to get the camshaft washer nuts undone (feat. assorted Escort gearbox bits, which is another thread update completely)

New oil control plugs (and yes I cleaned the carbon off the tops of the pistons before putting the heads on)

Head on, cams in

Belt on

Intake manifold on.

It's been doing daily duties for a few weeks, it's quite nice to have something with some pep to drive every day (rather than an 1100 Escort).

Haven't got any decent photos with the proper springs in the back, so that'll be the next update. Made a big difference to the handling though

Soooooo I'm the reason Mk2Marty bought his Radisich edition telstar. He found mine addicting. The story of mine is I bought it dirt cheap in January as a tiny bit of a project, in the time I've owned it, I've replaced the windscreen, radiator, various coolant hoses, replaced the coolant 5+ times, also replaced the engine oil and filter , gearbox oil, brake fluid, all pads, rear discs, tie rod ends, all cv boots, suspension bushes, and got rust cut out of the roof where it had cracked the screen, also have replaced the speakers with alpine 5x7 type R in the back and infinity kappa 5x7 components in the front with a big old pioneer/carrozziera amplifier. Then the alternator voltage regulator shorts out, so instead of paying $470 for a new alternator I bought an entire Radisich edition telstar for $250 which had an almost new alternator on it 5agaeqms.wqr.jpg

So the question is. What should I do with the green telstar, it runs and drives perfectly just wants a front bumper. It's deregistered so track car???? I've driven it with my other ones plates on it hahaha

24 Hours of Lemons track car? Well and truly qualifies, and would be pretty quick. Bit late for the first round but they are aiming for 3 events next year. www.24lemons.co.nz

Are those Telstars the same shape/ model as Mazda GE series?

I have a GE Cronos in my backyard if you need any odd bits ?

Head and tail lights look the same but front bumper may be a bit dear for shipping from way down here

Most of the interior is good and the exterior dark blue looks same shade

All I'm keeping is the engine so the rest is surplus / going to scrap at some point

From NZ herald: On the subject of local assembly, a model now fondly remembered by many motoring writers and former owners was introduced: a Ford Telstar V6 bearing the signature of local racing driver Paul Radisich, who had won the World 2-litre Touring Car Championship race earlier in the year. Ford New Zealand made 145 examples of the Radisich Signature Telstar, all finished in cobalt blue with a body kit and spring and damper package developed by Radisich at the Pukekohe circuit. On monster 16-inch wheels and 205/50 tyres - or so we thought at the time. But it was good. Anybody out there got one?
