Drew.nz
Hey Im looking at upgrading my exhaust system on my 2L pinto Mk5 cortina. I'm wanting to get that real hearty Pinto sound while getting maximum flow and power upgrade. Would really like to know the best size pipe to use and what resos/mufflers best to use to get the out come i want. Can anyone recommend a good Exhaust workshop in Auckland? 187inc
Go see Chris/Jason at Woolf Mufflers, cool guys who don't stuff around, Chris has done heaps of pintos too. And they have a sweet Mk1 Esky racecar in their reception.

Gaz
2inch. If its in an escort your limited to size of muffler that can fit under body but 1x resonator mid by tunnel and 1x muffler at rear is what Ive usually run. I used a turboflow type muff in the rear of one setup and it was nice, not teenage loud but not quiet either. Gaz

And it's not to bad, my old 2.5 used to hit way more so good fitment is the key!
Rookie
Back to my original comment... 3" with no mufflers.
J2Racing
From memory David Vizard agrees with Gaz. Been a while since I read his book on the pinto.

Sorry I meant limited to muffler size under car rather than exhaust pipe size.
kpr
All depends what has been done /what is going to be done to engine. if its stock or mild mods 2" probably fine. if big cams etc, need to run at least 2.5" with no restrictions. or nothing will work properly.
Muncie
Wouldnt be surprised if Coby still do a bolt on system for the old mk5 headers to tailpipe. i worked at Woolf for a stint ages ago Before Alan Woolf left and Jason took over. Jason knows his stuff ring and ask for him he owns the escort in reception talking pinto with him would be a great start.
