ex lancer wat!
i have a ex lancer and it is low but will be going lower. it will be running approx 350hp ATW. im deciding if i run a two piece dshaft or single piece. what are the advantages and disadvantages bearing in mind the low height of the car and the power it will be running
KKtrips
2 piece driveshafts require 2 driveshaft loops which is a PITA - but I cannot give an opinion either way to the technical aspects.
Brennan
not an expert by any means, but i would be looking at a single piece driveshaft, as there is less parts to break with the 350hp. and only one driveshaft loop as k-trips said ^
cletus
a 2 piece shaft has a higher rpm limit- something to consider if running an engine capable of high revs like a rotary, or a lower diff ratio and a gearbox with a lot of overdrive also sometimes the shape of the floor dictates whether you need a 2 piece shaft- eg a commodore- designed to have a single piece shaft- with a single piece shaft will have rubbing issues on the floor
kpr
drive shaft length, along with diameter and material, dictates the speed the drive can be spun before vibration/ destruction. basically if you are going to be doing high speeds and low diff ratio, you will likely need a 2 piece shaft /beaten

e30-323ti
I had a 3" 1pc shaft, was no good, now run a 2pc. From Previous Discussions
Ned
Wouldn't you technically also have less unsprung weight but a little more sprung weight because of the extra mount and joint etc?
Truenotch
Wouldn't you technically also have less unsprung weight but a little more sprung weight because of the extra mount and joint etc? Yes. 2 piece shafts seem to have fewer issues with universal joint angle and they can take higher RPM before exploding. I'd recommend a 2 piece because they are almost always smoother.
