M_C
Isnt that the point of racing? Lots more to concentrate on, having to take different lines and adapt to improve your driving. I enjoyed having more cars around. Definitely need better mirrors to keep an eye on them. Video of Hiwi rd looks legendary! I should be able to run in mates 4dr caged Mk2 escort with warm pinto. Hmmmm, better not kill that one too...
Truenotch
Good mirrors are sweet as long as you don't focus on them too much... You're not driving backwards after all. Heath, it sounds like you just need to do more racing with other cars. It takes a while to get a feel for where everyone is, but is sweet one you get comfortable. mikuni
I'm the exact opposite Heath. That sump guard has confirmed I'm not going to do any road racing. Yet, when I pulled in after my second run at Hampton Downs racing actual cars I literally had a grin from ear to ear. It's definitely the best track time I've had yet. The extra challenge of trying to get by someone adds so much to the excitement levels. I don't care if the times are down a little from being held up, once you get past them you can chuck a blinder in there to keep them behind! drtdvl
Yeah i probably need to be a lot more comfortable with others around me, it's the first real time I've been in a situation where someone was trying to overtake me on the outside... I knew my car pushed a lot out of the corners so i was fearful of where they where in case i slide across the front of them... Brad - i eventually want the 205 to be a gravel rally car... so i guess it's a fundamental difference. I love seeing how fast i can go from point A to point B, and i hate being held up. I love it when it gets bumpy and rough and really makes you work to keep the car on the road... My ideal road would be a 1.5 car wide country lane with a tree canopy / hill and cliff setup... and very very twisty...
M_C
I'm the exact opposite Heath. That sump guard has confirmed I'm not going to do any road racing. From your tyre to guard clearance of less than one finger this may be a good idea, unless you can wind your suspension up a little... Having other cars around really adds some spice. Loks like Hiwi road has plenty of spice already!
shaneo
So who is going to the bent sprint? I'm happy my car made it there and back. Didn't run the best . And i think it will be the last time it gets the jump on Max's car. New motor being put together next week now
mikuni
Oh cool. I'll go, but probably not with my car in tow. What is next? Are there any of dual sprint series coming up that people want to have a crack at?
Truenotch
I'm heading back to taupo on the 21st if you're keen?
mikuni
I'm heading back to taupo on the 21st if you're keen? Could be. What is it for? It might be a little soon...
Archetype
I reckon the best part of circuit racing is the close driving and passing, etc. You don't even need the most powerful, fastest car if everyone's on even terms - then it comes down to good driving skills and calculated risks. That late model Alfa Romeo GT and I were having a good battle in the first run of the day. It was fun being on the outside on the big final sweeping corner, then again on turn 1. The white and orange Peugeot (106?) had a big spin in front of a couple of us coming over the rise after Gulf corner. No dramas though.
drtdvl
Yeah i'm just paranoid of damaging others... Hows everyone's prep for Hiwi going?
shaneo
Mine is still collecting dust dropping off new engine to be put together tomorrow. And yours
drtdvl
Mine is screwed. Won't be running for 18 months or so I think. Hope the business is going well.
Archetype
Lack of results from the dual sprints is ultra slack.
drtdvl
From Facebook: Campbell Robertson: Yes they will be, hopefully this weekend. I had some issues getting them in the spread sheet correctly. No problems with which time belonged to who, another great job by Mark Rogers of Marktime, more about changes in the spread sheet. M_C
Mega Unhappy Face Just had to book speedie trip to China and fly back in 6.50am the day of Hiwi rd. Pretty sure points cost to do Hiwi would be quite high...
drtdvl
Max - I'm not racing, so if you want me to pick you up from the airport and you can sleep on the way down to hiwi while i drive the escort down i can if you like... Go to the doc, get some sleeping pills and sleep on the flight home, then come back and see if you can go faster than Shane... You sort out that knock? M_C
Thanks for the offer. As much as I like you as a mate, after a week of only having Chinese women to look at I will be suffering withdrawal symptons and have serious needs that sleeping on your couch will not fill... Knock is likley Bad. I have another engine to drop in but have not been able to look at car yet. Have an offer to run another escort on the day, but will not make it. Anyone need an entry? As much as i owe you for towing the 205 back home, there are somethings i will not do... I'm not that kinda girl guy...
