Unclejake
AFAIK: If they are stronger they don't fit
Raizer
If its English axle (ie has a head) it will fit, but won't be any stronger. I would have thought that a facelift mk1 would have had an atlas axle in it?
wickmyster
Here is a pic of the actual car I am wanting to get the diff from. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/5f5wv Whichdiff is that?
d.p.n.s
couldnt see it clearly but it does look like a english diff so yes it would fit in your escort but it wont be stronger. if its a 3.5 then it could still be goood to have.
StuT
looks like a Atlas diff, which if so won't fit into escort diff. try getting the whole lot and fit in. I think it will be minimally wider overall. Good luck
sholdowa
There were some truly awful diffs fitted to some of the euro fords back then, and I think this is one of them, although it's hard to see at my age. But an english is an english. They're all pretty much the same, BTW. Don't click on the image!
J-W-G
All capri diffs are atlas diffs and are only alittle bit stronger, and dont share any interchangeable parts from what i know of. I f you want to change over the whole diff then youll need arches more than likely

Also many German Capris came with the Koln axle in them, which are a Salisbury like the Atlas but there weak as shit. A lot of the guys running the Atlas behind worked Cossies would argue that there more than "alittle bit stronger" too lol
sholdowa
The Koln ones are the worst! In all fairness, a lot of the big power escorts use heavily modded atlas axles - different halfshafts, fully floating hubs, quaife LSD, etc. For real axle pr0n, try http://www.fostek.co.uk/

Was just really comparing stock for stock, and what are the chances of getting a koln down here?
Raizer
and what are the chances of getting a koln down here? We got them here in some of the V4 powered cars.
crazy_rich
All 4 cylinder mk1 Capri's had english axles. So unless that car was a v6, or has had a v6 diff swapped in the head will be interchangeable with an escort one. It will not be stronger however, though I have heard claims the 3.5:1 GT diff heads possess stronger bearings. True? maybe. I'm sure you know, but english diff's are front loading, atlas are rear loading. If that car does have an atlas, and the wheels aren't sticking out the guards its worth good coin.
