burrowssj
so the conversion has begun. Any tips on aligning the clutch? I don't have the tool. Are these still available for old cars?
My name is Russell
Got a stuffed matching gearbox lying around?
Slacker_Sam.
Repco has the tools. But I like to use a keen eye & a 3/8" drive long extension with insulation tape wrapped around it to pack it out a bit has never failed me yet.

Steelies
get your fingers in the gaps round the sides of the clutch and you can feel if the plate is misaligned pretty easy.

Ogre
ive fucked around using my eye, fingers, screw drivers and old input shafts, but DAMN the $16 tool from repco is worth its weight in gold IF USED CORRECTLY!!!
burrowssj
wonder if its worth removing the engine ... have done in suzuki before it was a bitch lol
KKtrips
What Steelies/Manu says is true - chuck the clutch etc on, make sure the clutch plate is the right way around (ie the shallow side faces the flywheel) do the cover bolts up till they are just nipped up and so you can still move the plate around. Put your fingers in the gaps between the pressure plate and the flywheel and you will feel where the clutch plate and pressure plate friction surface are - if you feel in all 3 gaps you will feel the gaps where the clutch plate sticks out past the pressure plate and is recessed in other gaps - move the plate around till you feel the same gap on all 3 access holes and you tighten up pressure plate bolts - recheck the gap and if it feels good you should be AOK to chuck in the gearbox... burrowssj
im converting from column shift auto to column shift manual. It all came out pretty easy but theres a fair amount of work to be done putting it back in. Mainly linkage stuff, PITA but I'll get there
KKtrips
good work - shouldn't be too hard if you have all the right parts
burrowssj
I has a whole car of parts pretty much perfect situation. Get a complete conversion that I drove to my driveway and a bunch of other misc parts I was needing. I've dabbled in this before but not with the linkages so there is alil bit of fiddling to be done. I just like every other man enjoy a good fiddle tho....
