Jase
planning on doing a little budget engine build on the gemini, heads can get a bit porous with age so was going to deck the block instead of shaving the head for more squish, any argument as to why this won't work
KKtrips
The piston may hit the head
Spencer
Depends on the deck height, its pretty common to zero the deck height by skimming the block on old low compression engines. Totally depends on piston and head design though
Jase
gathered that seem to remember pistons sitting lower than deck height on last g200, maybe a metal head gasket is another option
Spencer
Need to measure the piston to head clearence and compression ratios and figure out how much you can take out of the block. Im sure it will be quite abit, but can't really say as I am not familiar with them
cute wee gem
skimmed my g200z, was fine, but didn't take enough off to raise comp significantly
Jase
have old big valve 1600 head to use which should apparently bring it up a bit
Valiant
A rebore + oversive pistons will help bump up the compression too.
Mattt
You'll have to deck the block and skim the head if your going down the route of metal headgasket. There's not a lot of tollerence in those bad boys for uneven surface.
Jase
yeah i realise that and don't want water jacket issues
cute wee gem
A rebore + oversive pistons will help bump up the compression too. Bad idea on a g200, the bores are ridiculously close together, would need to be o-ringed to seal the head properly. (had this problem with my last one) Would be better off with a 4z as they have bigger/even spacings between bores.
Yammies
The short answer is there is no reason why you can't deck the block as opposed to skimming the head. most people only skim the head, but if your head is straight and not corroded you'll be fine... normally the head is worse than the block though! Just work out your compression ratio and piston/valve clearances to make sure there won't be any issues.
Yowzer
I know with certain engines skimming the block is more ideal (depending on how much you skim) as it can effect the combustion chamber shape and mess up all your gas flow and swirl etc.
