1.3.4.2 Tappet time

Ok easy way of doing tappets,

set to tdc

#1 inlet and exhaust are loose, set #2 inlet #3 exhaust and #1 inlet and exhaust.

rotate to tdc one rotation

#4 inlet and exhaust should be loose, set #2 exhaust #3 inlet and #4 inlet and exhaust.

Please add more versions if you have them to cover other configurations.

I don't have my book here with me, but my Haynes manual for my datsun A series gives you a sequence to follow. That way you're adjusting each tappet while the follower is smack bang on the back of the base circle of the lobe. The above method wouldn't quite as accurate. IE, with the cam spinning at half crank speed, at TDC the exhuast lobe is less than a quarter camshaft rotation from begining it's opening event. That'd mean the follower may not (depending on the grind) be at 180* from the center of the lift sie of the lobe.

Holden inline 6 simple as...

Firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4

get #1 rocking (in /out both open at centre of action) then do the opposite in/out (#6)

rock 5 do 2

rock 3 do 4

rock 6 do 1

rock 2 do 5

rock 4 do 3
