Snoozin
So yeah WOF man noted there was play in the LHS rack end of the Trump. Have checked all my manuals (Haynes, Intereurope etc) and all state there is adjustment via shims in the manual rack but there is no mention of adjustment in the power steer rack. It's something I'd like to get on top of now rather than later/letting it get worse, there is a steering rack service kit available that comprises all the appropriate seals bushes etc... how tricky is it to recondition a power steering rack DIY style? Any suggestions?
DavidTheCreator
havnt done a trump ps rack, but have done a jza70 supra and that was easy as. just dive into it head first
Beaver
havnt read it through but his thread may be of some help http://www.triumph2000register.co.uk/ph ... =13&t=2543
Snoozin
Yeah I did see that one... deals with a different issue, leaking seals as opposed to wear. Have found an engineering outfit that can sort it for me though, apparently it's fairly simple to sort the rack end play and shouldn't cost any more than a couple of hundred plus gst according to the chap on the phone. If all else fails I have a manual setup I can bung in it.
Beaver
stick manual rack in, save gym cost etc. its ridiculous how awesome the powersteering when switching between my two trumps. its a fucking nightmare trying to park the brown one, bus like steering wheel and heavy as shit steering. Snoozin
Hard. Will endeavour to keep the powersteer to be honest... it's so much better. Bus steering wheels come in handy without it though.
KKtrips
If you are going to get someone to rebuild for you - take to PG Hydraulics - overhauling power steering is their main breadwinner AFAIK...
Seedy Al
hmmm. i prefered them without power steer. i tended to find that with the PS they like to wander a bit... plus they are waaaaaaaaaay to light
Beaver
thats just cause you are so buff tho Seedy. once they are driving the non p/s is sweet, but at slow speeds, my god, I need to go to the gym obviously.
fuel
is it not the inner rack end itself? surely you can just replace that?
Jase
if its not leaking fluid it'll be as above, merely add a washer/shim in there or replace the inner rack ends.
Beaver
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 625186.htm may be a last resort?
Snoozin
Shit yes, definite last resort hah! But reshimmed rack ends gives me hope so I should be able to just sort that.
Seedy Al
if all shins have been removed, dont be afraid to file down the ends mildly to get rid of the play.
