SP450andLE
I'm wanting to paint the wheels on my Mini old english white, but I'm not sure what paint to use. Can I use ordinary spray-can automotive paint, or will I have to get special wheel paint mixed up? If it's the latter, where can I get this done? Cheers. Beaver
you can get wheel paint in a spray can from repco/supercheap etc.
SP450andLE
But I'm fairly sure it doesn't come in old english white...?
Testament
probably comes is ford transit/fridge white? close enough?
SP450andLE
Nahh, old English white is way more beige coloured than fridge white...
Sparkle
probably best to head to an automotive paint supplier man, is sometimes cheaper than supercheap/repco as well.
SP450andLE
OK, I might end up painting them properly at work (I'm the clean-up boy at Imaginairing (google it if you're as nosey as I am... )). At least that way I know they will last...
BlownCorona
if by chance your lucky and the wattl Killrust has the right colour, that stuff is pretty damn good, primer and gloss base coat in one and strong as hell, its on my advans and i did a coffee table frame with it that gets a hell of a kicking and still no scratches

sholdowa
I'm intending to powdercoat my 'minilites'. Is this an acceptable plan??
Testament
Dredging this up - did you get the wheels painted? I've got some I need to paint and I'm wondering what are the pros and cons paint vs. powder coat?
SP450andLE
Nah, still not painted. I have decided to spend the money on getting the farken thing going first. Isn't powdercoating quite expensive?
tortron
brit car / mini suppliers will have the exact match in a can for you
bubblegoose
powdercoat = better even coverage, if your blasting the wheels first then its cheaper than a pro-paint job and supposedly more durable then paint (will cost more if you want a custom matched colour) paint in a can = average heat resistance, cheap as brah, many colours to choose from but not such a good life span/brake dust eats it real/man paints/2ks = can paint over small bog repairs, more colours then you can ever need, good heat resistance/durability (id say the same as powdercoat) harder to get a good coverage in tricky shaped wheels but generaly has a better finish/gloss than powdercoating
4AG_Addict
Isn't powdercoating quite expensive? No powdercoating is cheap, last set of wheels I did were $15 a wheel, not including sandblasting which I did myself.
bubblegoose
if you go for a colour the coaters are already running in there machine then its hella cheap, if they have to order in materials and set it up just for you then its not far off painting costs moral= do more than one set/item
