Yowzer Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share Posted February 7, 2011 Was in the process of swapping the pump with my known good one, however the pulley nut is on so motherfucking tight and I have no way of undoing it. 2' power bar with another 2' extension pole on the end wouldn't cut it. KKtrips Posted February 7, 2011 Share Posted February 7, 2011 Hey Jase bro mayteee potatey - If it was hydroscopic it means it attracts and absorbs water. http://oilgasglossary.com/hydroscopic.html Diesel is not hydroscopic as evidenced when you spill diesel on the ground - try to wash it away with water and it just beads - if it was hydroscopic it would mix with the water and become one. like brake fluid and water/antifreeze and water... etc The reason for water traps is to remove the water from the tank before it gets into the pump - if water was left in the fuel then under the sort of pressure you see in diesel injection the water would turn to steam and would have the same effect as air in the system.. Water is not attracted to the diesel its just some dispensing stations have less than desirable tank sealing and get water in the tank.. Jase Posted February 8, 2011 Share Posted February 8, 2011 yeah but cause uncle mark accepts ethanol from tirau up there at marsden point and mixes it with all that other good stuff that makes our nz diesel ,means we get a hydroscopic blend, being cheap nzer's our diesel is proportionally biodiesel. rather than search the e-nets i rang uncle mark who's been at marsden point over 25 years and got a direct answer. KKtrips Posted February 8, 2011 Share Posted February 8, 2011 OK if we have an alcohol based blend then it is true that the alcohol would absorb water - but IMO the percentage of water contained within the alcohol would be minimal and when you factor in the fact that the ethanol would only be a low percentage of the diesel fuel then the actual water content would be 2/3rd's of fuck all.. This is my opinion and not a fact as per your Uncle Mark.. But I would fairly confidently say that the water content of the fuel in Sprinklers tank would NOT cause the symptoms he describes.. smokin' joe Posted February 9, 2011 Share Posted February 9, 2011 had brain fade on my original reply, but had a 5L-E with similar issues at my former employment location (far more tepremental pump than 2-3L. i'm with Jase on this. if water has mixed with the fuel (quite common in SI) the dirty ol' jigger will send better white smoke signals than a Soiux Indian in distress. have been told that 80% of diesil filters available in NZ don't absorb the water, but merely filter impurities. talk to your diesil specialist and get a decent filter....... Fram Repco Ryco etc are good only if your fuel supply is good (not likely!!) , go for the Tullemore Dew version and you'll be fine. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Idled fine, rev'd fine, etc. Drove it around a bit, boosted up and was quite a bit quicker than previously (to be expected, it now as a turbo.) Boost and fuel are still at factory default. Anyway, tonight I decided to drive it home so I could get the exhaust done tomorrow. However when I stopped at an intersection, it died. The fact the battery was fucked didn't help. Swapped in a good battery, but now the car does not want to idle very happily. I had to crank the idle speed up a notch to keep it alive. Sounds very much like it's dropped a cylinder or 2, but picks them back up once revs are increased. Ideas??? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jase Posted February 16, 2011 Share Posted February 16, 2011 give it a re-bleed , the alternator may have just dropped off enough at idle to close the fuel cut solenoid and then you may have a little drain back or air leak somewhere in the lines. CaMpylobacter Posted February 16, 2011 Share Posted February 16, 2011 told ya. the air bubbles in the high pressure side wont all self purge without cracking the nut to let them out the side. the crack pressure of the injector nozzles is so high that the bubble jsut gets compressed and makes a cunt of a dealio.
