CaMpylobacter
bigends having like a thou of wear causing pistons to clip head is my guess. probably number 4, especially due to a lazy oil pressure relief valve and added oil pressure demand from turbo being plumbed in has killed it. lel
Yowzer
Sounds like the front of the engine, but can't really pinpoint it. Engine still feels to run sweet, but it is a pretty loud noise at idle that was not there yesterday. That would be mildly gay if that was the case though. Jase
engine mounts not torn from increased powers? or just typical diesel rattle or impending doom death rattle, tensioner hasn't worked loose on the cambelt? (loctited mine after impending doom rattle revealed it backed itself off)
Yowzer
Doesn't look like engine mounts. Was thinking it could just be some sort of diesel rattle, but it got louder and more concerning. I cranked the tensioner up to spec, not really keen on pulling the whole front off again.. Will see if I can bend the cover back enough to get a look inside. Might find some high quality audio recording device for the sake of online diagnostics. Gonna be pretty gutted if it is something internal. Yowzer
I just woke up to the sudden realisation that I didn't do up the waterpump pulley bolts.. Most probably the source of the bizarre noise.
Hemi
argh so sick of small noises and ticks making people think what they are running is fucked ! . ffs if there is a noise you cant track down and it still runs without loss of power etc who the fuck cares keep driving it till it comes out of the closet . the sound will either turn into a physical breakage or go away , then you have something to fix or not . dont fix shit that aint broke
keltik
^Possibly worst piece of advice ever? Makes more sense to hunt down noise and correct it before something goes wrong. Tightening water pump bolts seems easier than replacing pistons and valves because the loose pulley threw the cam belt.
Jase
pump doesn't run off cambelt, couldn't possibly throw the cambelt as its got a massive plastic cover shielding it from the v belt set that runs all those ancillaries, good theory on tracking stuff down but L series diesels make weird noises as do a lot of others and will clatter away for years
keltik
pump doesn't run off cambelt Ah, did not know this. Still, id rather fix/inspect pump than have some kind of disaster.

Brock-Lee
replaced head on a td27t and it had this horrendous knock that to me sounded like piston mashing into something. Car still idled and rev'd up fine-ish, I was convinced it was fucked but all we did was bleed it more and it ran mint. In closing, bleed it more. Maybe
