Yowzer
I would look for vacuum leak, make sure some pipe hasn't split or popped off, Check the AFM and TPS, After that I dunno.
tytcnt
i checked all the hoses and plugs cleaned all them but still does the same thing
Yowzer
Make sure the Air Flow Meter and Throttle Position Sensor are doing what they are supposed to.
Simon
By AFM he means Map sensor.
Yowzer
Nah I mean AFM. Whether or not his engine has one is irrelevant. But yeah, check the MAP sensor if you do not have an AFM. Fuck knows how ya check one of them though
tytcnt
its a blue top 16v,how would i check the air flow meter /Throttle Position Sensor ?sorry dont know to much about 4ages
mjrstar
Sounds like a lack of fuel to me, check pump voltage and pull off fuel return and see how much flow you have got. Might pay to check fuel filter too. Afm and map failure should allow it to start fine and then idle like crap, more throttle will generally make it run (slightly better) the symptoms lead me down the path of the fuel system having a bug. Yowzer
AFM would cause it to die at anything after idle, as it doesn't realize it needs to add more fuel. So will have similar symptoms. Flatmate reckons the TPS is the most likely culprit.
tytcnt
could be fuel but i can feel fuel going into the fuel rail and coming out or could it be injectors are blocked?

I have done this on my evo to prime up the new turbo, sure it doesn't idle pretty but a partly cracked throttle will make it run.. VERY unlikely injectors are blocked enough to cause. What else have you done to the car lately?
Toucan
Bluetop has MAP sensor. Is engine in a stock car or is it a conversion? Was it running well in the past? Check the basics first, good spark, fuel at the rail, timing alignment marks all correct.
tytcnt
havent touched the motor apart from putting injector clean in fuel ,i did wash down the engin bay but i did get rid of all the water in the leads and dizzy everything else
l1ttle_d3vil
could be a dodgy water temp sensor, the green one on the back of the head. unplug it and start it to see if it makes any difference. if it runs even worse with it unplugged, it must still be working. try unplugging the TPS too, if it makes no difference to how it runs it's probably stuffed. tytcnt
it idles with the tps off but when put some gas in it dies
Truenotch
If you try to add throttle with the TPS disconnected it won't be able to sense the position of the butterfly and will just die. So with the TPS connected it will only idle for 10secs, and with it disconnected it's idling fine? If so, get a multimeter and check the sensor. www.club4ag.com - go to the technical reference section for info. Make sure you look at JDM specs not USDM ones. Yowzer - 4AGE 16v's are all MAP in NZ, the only ones with AFM are bigport GZE's.
EvoBilly
sounds like a lack of fuel to me i had the same issue with my blu top 4age it turned out to be lose hose clamps on the fuel line into the tank so it was getting poor fuel pressure
barf
I have seen this one before, was attributable to a broken ECU in that case. but check simple things first always.
