Sierra 2.0 dohc 8v motor.... info?

Hi all, iv just picked up a Sierra 2.0 dohc 8v motor to go in my escort and am having trouble finding info on the net about it. found the basic stuff but i want to know what the difference is between the block on this motor, than the sohc pinto motor? From what i can tell they are different.

also any other info at all will be much appreciated, cheers

different yes. not realy a engine many people mess around with. get a pinto

Pretty much.

Cam chain driven heavy hard to tune and not very powerful haha, have a look on some uk message boards about them such as tramp drift and the ford sierra owners club there are a few blokes who use them and tune them. But bassicly everything you want to do with it will have to be custom eg exhaust manifolds cams etc. The chains tend to wear the tensioners quite badly and go bang replacement parts are expensive and hard to source in NZ they also have a tendency of blowing head gaskits and warping heads.

A positive though is the MT75 box is pretty strong and there quite tourqey haha.

so basicly get a pinto.

If you want an engine which you are not going to mod but has a wee bit more power than the "pinto" then id stick with the 8v DOHC.

If you want to start tickling an engine then I would turn to the Pinto instead of the 8v DOHC.

If you want a decent engine with decent power I would then convert to Nissan.

The Ford code for these engines is I4, and has been said there pretty shit!

They have a square 86mmx86mm bore/stroke, and just don't like revving.

You didn't say if yours was carb or injected, but here's the stock power figures for the 3 8 valve variations:

The carb 8v had 80kw @ 5600rpm and a 6050rpm redline

The first gen injected had 92kw @ 5500rpm with 5950rpm redline

2nd gen injected (with cat converter) made 88kw @ 5500rpm and redlined at 5950rpm.

And just for interest the later 16 valve versions made 110kw @ 6000 rpm from the first one with 10.3:1 compression, and the later 9.8:1 version had 101kw @ 6300rpm while the 2.3L (89.6 x 91.0 bore/stroke) version made 110kw @ 5600rpm and put out more torque than any of the others.

Oh and yeah they share nothing with the pinto other than the bellhousing pattern from memory.

Lol and if you want late model/new parts the 2L 8valve (with OBD II EECV injection and no dizzy) is the petrol engine that was used in 1994-2000 Transit van and the 2.3L 16v was in the 2000 to 2006 Transit.

Specs aren't all there is to it. Nissan can do an extra 50rpm in the same vintage with twice as many valves.

Back in topic, I agree with what has been said. Trying to find parts for an obsolete engine is not fun.
