1977 mk2 and i was wondering on some options for engine transplant, and info on them.

i have had options such as 4age, mx5, 2l cortina, but im just not sure, im not after incredible power or anything(not saying im not looking), just something that runs well and can go the distance.

money isnt too much of a problem, but i would be looking closely after around $3k.

ideas?

Yes, think there were a few diff models. Want a 2l one and research which has the most power. I know a simple pulley change is one of the better cheap mods to these. Also need the steel sump of a Ford Focus so you can mod it. Then need a Ford Sierra 5 speed box and flywheel and pas on clutch. Youll have to look more into it as im not 100% sure on what it entails, its def not a major conversion tho. I know the standard ECU is almost unusable however so either budget in an aftermarket ECU or twin carbs with megajolt or similar. Heaps of aftermarket support for these.

Or could also go with the newer mondeo engine which is the Duratech. May cost you a wee bit more in outlay however.

I had a 4age in an escort before with twin 40's and cams. Id say it was disapointing but id get my head bitten off!

2l Zetec with Sierra 5speed box and link ecu would be doable for 3g id say and it keeps it FORD!

I'd say Zetec, they look awesome in and yea keeping it ford and if u decide to chuck even more money into it you can buy some real hot stuff from like burtons for it.
