Gaz
I did ask him if vavles hit engine when turned over and he said no. He has machined grooves in piton head to allow for the larger valves.. Sounds like it is done right and has been thought about by someone with at least a semi knowledge of what they are doing.. doesnt mean it is done right tho still
RUNAMUCK
Maybe. I've seen guys put releifs into pistons with a dremmel while the engine is in the car. Then sucked out the swarf with a vacuum cleaner. Worked I spose. I'm always dubious about built motors. If you don't know who slammed it together, Fuck knows what dodgy shit had been done. Raizer
The shop is Gisborne Machinery and cycle world, and the machinist is named DaveI don't know about WDE_BDY but i wouldn't touch a car engine from that guy!
sholdowa
tbh all I'd use is the crank and pistons, and rebalance the rods ( if they're easy to split off the pistons ) and pistons, and just maybe the head ( if it's unleaded and gp.1 valves I can't lose! ) but if you know him, then maybe I'll just steer clear!!! I really appreciate this feedback folks.
Gaz
^^ you mean youll use everything except the block haha. Why not use the block aswell, its all setup for the pistons.
sholdowa
Well, I've got a 205 block here, and I'd prefer to use that ( given that I'm a fat bastard, the weight penalty won't make much of a difference ). What I sort of mean to say is that I'd take it apart, and recheck everything, rebalance etc, and build it up myself. Then I can only point the finger at myself. I'm a bit worried about the comments about 'weight added' though - this is sort of a different approach to the one I'd take!

Gaz
Ahh I see. I didnt look, is the one for sale not a 205 block? Also what is this adding weight?

If you squint on one of the photos, then you can see a 20 in the casting. And the 205 block is stronger but heavier than the original block... nismo.capri
Buy this and save yourself HEAPS of $$$$http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =156657713 Will do 200hp with 45's a Vizzard head tickle and the right tune. I'd believe that when I saw the dyno run. Have a look here at the pinto leader board http://rs2000.mine.nu/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10930 There's carbed, EFI, turbo'ed and supercharged. If you want 200 HP you really need to go forced induction unless you want to drive a race engine on the road.
nismo.capri
and want to increase the capacity as far as poss without going silly money. I'm keeping it na, so want to keep the piston tops approx at the top of the ( 205 ) block - with the longest rods possible. Is there anywhere I can look this kind of stuff up on the net, or a local guru about??? There's a datson rod/ subbie combo that works, i have the details burried some where I'll see if I can find them. From memory its pricy as theres a bit of machining to get done. nismo.capri
<100hp/L - bored out to 2.2LBut still probably need revs >7500 It would need a stroker crank to get that. Can't really bore a pinto much over 2.1L.

It has been stroked. Reground Camshaft (nice and lumpy) High pressure valve springs Stanless steel valves (bigger and lightened) Port and polish Planed head Bored out to 2.2L Over sized pistons (from Subaru) Longer rods (from Toyota) Stroked and balanced crank Rebuilt oil pump But yeah its sold now for $700. I think a good idea even if its a gamble.

When ya take away 30% drivetrain loss thats 104.398kw@wheels. 2 of the NA cars in your list have that and a few more are close to. But yeah your prob right, it would prob be quite a cunt on the street. Id do it more for the torque advantage or as a start for a tourqey turbo setup. Added the ist as its quite good as a reference regaurdless.Would be good if we knew what was done to each engine. Are they all 2l or 1600? I notice it says RS2000 in places but just Mk2 in others. 1.
