Guest Westmk2
Hey, could anyone recommend a shop in Auckland that could swap my 1300 for my pinto? Dont think i would be able to do it. Also maybe a place that rebuilds them. Cheerrrs
Jay GTi
Repco Continuing on that theme... yes there's lots, they are generally known as 'garages', sometimes if they are flash, they are called 'workshops'. try http://www.yellowpages.co.nz and search for either. Jay GTi
I know, I was just being dumb... but really it's such a simple swap, being that there were factory pinto-powered Escorts, that any garage can do it. Just rock up to a couple in your local area and ask what they'd think the job would cost. Best option, get someone on here to help you, ply them with large quantities of free beer and learn something in the process. Give them the beer after they've done the work, not during though... RT
it's not the kinda thing you want to pay someone to do.. it's not difficult but some cunty bits which are just time not skill related, which would cost you in the pocket. imo the pinto's main draw card is it's simplicity to learn maintain and modify youself. I've even got an article here on what you need to do: http://www.retrotech.co.nz/2LOHC.html
zep
Manon Butler Motors Ltd Unit 1 62 Barrys Point Rd Takapuna Auckland 0-9-489 8998 I'm pretty sure these guys will be able to do it. They are Escort fiends and have built very very powerful race ones in the past. Pintos, N/A YBs, etc
spanfarmer
im sure me and the mates could sort it out for a few box's o speights, done a few of em now. only real trick is do you want to keep the escort gearbox, or upgrade to a cortina or sierra one at the same time? Guest Westmk2
Cheers for that zep. Ill give them a call and see what kind of cash they would want for the job. I would want to upgrade to the 5sp gbox aswell as having that extra gear would be pretty shweet. But it saying that i am not rolling in money so will probly end up begging some of you lot to help me out for a few boxes. The body needs abit of work first but that wont tk long. cheers
Gaz
Id say you wont get any change from $2000 and thats not including the engine or box. Id say itd prob even cost more. If your going to pay someone to do a conversion you may as well put a DOHC newer engine in there that wont need a rebuild. Only extra work in alot of cases is the mounts. Seedy Al
I once would have recommended Nite parts, but that was years ago allan
MkI_whiplash_Cortina
Engine work When I got my 4ag headwork done I went to carr engine services, 63 carr rd, mt Roskill I think. They were super helpful and they also went the extra mile when I got valves done, good price too . When I need to get work done on the rest of the engine I will take it to them as I have some serious work to be done! Putting it into car: Get mates or somebody who has done it before will save you dollars $$
