Tyre hookups in Hamilton

hey guys I'm about to buy a set of four new 205/50 R15 tyres - either dunlop DZ101 or toyo T1R or maybe something else equally as good for the same price. Is there anyone here in Hams who can hook a brother up with a good deal? So far have been quoted $179 per tyre which is just a little more than I wanna spend. I would be open to used tyres with half tread or more if someone knows of a set around.

Cheers

Dont know if you will get a deal but theres a tall stocky chap at capital tyres that gave me great service, allan or aaron I can't recall which but they both work there. If you tell him the guy that bought 14" direzzas for his starlet sent you he may look after you, worth a visit

Could also prob garb you a hole set of 15s and bring to trackday. Something like 195 or 205x 50 or sixty. for real cheap. think less than one of those tyres ur talkn bowt edit: i mean less for four than ur gun pay for 1

i lost the four and six keys off my keyboard

Oh real, what brand and tyre are those cheap ones? I'm leaning towards real grippy tyres over cheaper tyres, but I'm trying to hunt out the best price for those tyres.

Hrmm.. so far for brand new I can get a set of DZ101s for $700ish with a free wheel alignment, or same price for a set of T1R's or same price for a set of those new bridgestone potenza RE001 assymetrical tyres.

Dan yeah I went down there and talked to him, best he could do was a set of T1R's for $179 each and they would do some sort of 'look after your customer package' with free tyre rotation and pressure checking - hardly something beneficial to me.

Decisions decisions...

Worded it kinda wrong. Hard decision not interesting.

Old lady runs the DZ101's and I rate them mean.

I used to run t1rs years and years ago and also rate them hard nuts. Been a long time and they were on diff cars but I think id tend to go for the T1rs. They have prob changed the formula for the tyre now so could be differant but im guessing they would be better rather than worse.

T1rs wear pretty fast from what ive heard. I didnt keep mine long enough to find out as I sold the car. Cant coment on the Dzs in this sense.

Tough choice. The new bridgies might be just as good too to make it even harder.

Get a price on the RE001's... they are an AWESOME tyre.

I did the NZH trackday on my new Direzza's and 16's, and the RE001's I've got on my 15's absolutely own them in terms of grip and predictability... disappointed with the Direzza's really, but they do wear less by all accounts.

Don't know about wet grip with the Direzza's yet, but the RE001's have also proven amazing in the wet, they displace an incredible amount of water.

I've been told the T1Rs are not so good in the wet, and I can't get as good a deal on them as the DZ101's anyway.

So it's $179ish per tyre for DZ101s here in Hamilton locally fitted and balanced, or $172 per tyre for RE001's freighted free up to Hamilton but would need them fitted and balanced still, but I can't imagine that would be more than $10 a tyre.

So RE001's wear out faster do they?

Yeah Brad the RE001s aren't such a pretty tyre as the DZ101s.

Theres a place in aux that me and jarred use thats waaaay cheaper than any where, but yea gota travel.

my toyo proxes (205x55x16s) were 155 each fitted balanced and he gave me a free petrol voucher.

jarreds 17s were like 150? instead of 300? im sure he can tell you more acuretly lol... they were bridgestone somethings lol.

Yeah the RE001's seem to wear quicker. That said I've been doing stupid mileage in the Integra lately, so that'll have an impact.

I paid $680 for a set of 195/55/15's (RE001's) fitted and balanced from Firestone in Palmy.

Not pretty but fuck who cares they grip like a schoolboy watching his first porno.

Another advantage is, being asymmetric and not directional, is you can switch them from side to side of the car when you do a rotation, whereas with Direzzas being directional you have to switch them onto the other rims to go from left to right.

Now ring up tonys tyres etc and ask whats the best deal they can give, then when they give you price say so and so will do it for $20 cheaper, they're suckers.

There's no Tony's Tyres up here

Pity as they a good way to get cheapest retail tyres.

As for balancing... $20 each here in Rotorua. I was complaining about it and got told thats normal price! Its only $10-15 in Welly per tyre/rim, guess more places to fight for customers.

Yeah it depends where you go really. I have a local guy down the road who swapped over some 14" tyres onto my standy rims and balanced them for $20. I just realised he's a Firestone dealer too so I'll go pay him a visit at lunch and see what he can do for me.
