WildPlumDx
hey guys I've got this annoying humming noise coming from my 84 Gemini sedan comes in at 100 and goes away after 110 so i thought yeah since i lowered it in all i need adjustable pan hard rod to re-centerlize the diff so i put that on measured from each side of rim to guard got it bang on center (if this is even the way to do it?) and it still makes the noise? so i'm guessing maybe a out of balance drive shaft ? what you guys think ? Unclejake
You will feel an out of balance driveshaft long before you hear it I think. Did the problem start immediately after you lowered the car and does the 'hum' change pitch with increased road speed ?
mk5corty
Did you get a new exhaust? exhaust drone? Is the carpet and sound deadning still in?
mark105
possibly just tyres after being lowered maybe long shot but yeh
Burntrubber
I had it ages ago in my Gemini I changed the wheel bearings hoping for an easy fix in the end I put a whole diff housing I had in and it fixed it. I found that the torque tube rubber was ripped so I decided thats what it was.
WildPlumDx
i never drove the car before i lowered it so not sure but nah its totally the driveshaft or diff maybe? and my exhaust is just an old one doesn't sound remotely exhaust related hmmm

mark105
diff wine then? unless you like have a hole in your driveshaft thats whistling at a certain speed?
alfalfa
Could be tyres - the tread blocks vibrate when driving, and at certain speeds (like 100-110 in your case maybe) the vibration is much greater than any other speeds (resonant frequency), and they actually make an audible sound like humming or singing. Depends on type of tyre and road surface, does it happen on ashphalt motorways as well as chip seal?
kyteler
Humming birds, trapped in the tyres? no? OK, my guess would either be tires or gearset.
WildPlumDx
i got basically new direzza's also it makes the noise on any road and i'll try change the front tires with the back but i'm dead sure it has nothing to do with tires hmmm
Rusted
Wheels may need to but balanced!
Unclejake
If you hadn't ever driven the car before then take a look at the trim around the screens and windows - a slightly loose trim will vibrate and hum at speed - but I would have thought it would not go away over 110kmph. Could be nothing to do with the lowering - or it still could be the front alignment. Hard thing to diagnose without being in the car.
