Gaz
Looking good. What turbo you planing on mounting on that top mount manifold? Do you know if it will fit? Looking at one for mine but wanted to make sure itll fit first. Im guessing its a trademe one for the Ca? Gaz
mikuni
Looking good mate. What engine management you using? Did your workmates smash the radiator support panel and the bulkhead up like that or was it like that from the previous owner? I'm quite a fan of nice carbon panels aye. Even on old things. Is that one custom made by someone or can you buy them for escorts from a supplier?
thminiman
im going to reserve judgement on the bonnet until i see the finished package, although, from the look of how your doing things, your not going to skimp out, so i am really looking forward to seeing how things work out with this
Josh
Awesome, Will go like anything when its done The carbon bonnet is an interesting feature, will reserve judgment to see how it looks on the finished product of the car, as thminiman said. QCADTA
Hey everyone. To answer a few questions; i will run a standard ca18det setup for a start, including computer, as i have another engine im building that uses a t3 turbo for it. The bonnet was made in dunedin and i picked it up off trade me. The radiator support panel is coming out anyway to make way for the intercooler and alloy radiator. Ive got blue recaros for it and numerous other bolt on goods. The old mans into his escorts so is always a help. Heres a pic of Mk 1 lotus escort twincam. He wouldnt let me build a shitter! [/img] The dots on the engine pics are rain. It goes like stink, 150hp at the wheels on the dyno!

Jay GTi
Very nice!! Any particular reason you're going CA18 instead of SR20? Just asking because the CA18 can tend to eat big ends... although if looked after is still a good engine. Don't forget to strengthen the shell though, once you start adding T3s and big power it'll start flexing like a rotten banana. Reminds me of my last still-born project. I was planning to build a Mk2 with an SR20DET in the UK, got as far as a 200SX RWD block and gearbox and a GTIR head but just couldn't find a decent enough shell to put it in. If you haven't visited this site yet, these guys are a gold-mine of useful Escort modification expertise. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/
peteretep
yeah turbosport is awesome
Gaz
IMO Ca18det is a better engine than the SR. I personally havnt heard of them running big ends. Must be an oil problem.. The Sr does cams and has rocker probs.. Suppose each engine has its downfalls.
QCADTA
Yeah ive heard of the odd one throwing a leg out of bed, but its all due to one reason, dirty big turbos on tired engines with standard internals, other than that all ive heard is theyre a cheap reliable and revv happy engine compared to the expense of the sr. And i know where there is about ten ca's sittin. Cheers for the turbosport lihk.

Will be a whole load of fun that is for sure and a lot better than a YB Cossie (I once said that about the SR20 on turbosport... didn't make many friends But the YB is a little, um... unrefined shall we say? ). Gaz
YB is a tad unreliable when boosted ive heard first hand.
Jay GTi
Not to mention big and heavy. It's an old design with tiny ports, rubbish 205 block on the early examples, problems with warping heads and gaskets been spat out on high-boost engines (they really need to be wire-rung for anything over 350hp). Cosworth did some good stuff with what they had to work with for the time, but most modern Japanese turbo engines are far superior.
