hey guys i have blown a 2nd diff and i really need something stronger in there what are my options without having to change the rear end etc or is there not many diff heads that will bolt into the same housing for a 79 escort

I'd go with a hilux or toyota t50 diff (the diff thats used with a t50 g/box) , tried and tested, and theres been a few conversions with them..

Other option is, ring around some rally or autocross guys, they often run different diffs...

Cheers,Chris

i fixed it thanks for your help guys i just got a soft faced hammer and hit it out. and i wasnt doing skids either. also the diff setup i picked up cost $125 and has a 1600 sport half shaft in it so i thought that was a pretty good deal

What may I ask have you been doing (if not skids) to do that to the gears?

Escort LSD from Palmside bout $1600. They will handle round 250hp so you wont blow one. Might fuck the LSD by doing burnouts all time.

Unless you want to shorten a diff then you dont have much choice. The GT/Sport/Ghia 3.54 escort diff has larger side gears and crown if that helps. One of the memebrs on here is selling one at the mo. Around $250 is the going rate. (dunno what he wants)

Other option is to wait for something already shortened to pop up.

The diffs are usually pretty good tho. Id be surprised if your braking it beacause of power. Id say its more to do with how its being used. They are way bigger than the corolla series diffs and ive seen people do fark loads of skids on them with 4ages and they dont break to easy.

My worked 4age escort managed to snap an axle before it blew the diff. So thats gotta say something. Perhaps your one was already half farked?

Mate of mine is getting me this diff oil that costs like 25bux a litre trade that is supposed to add padding and shit inbetween the gears. some buzzy oil that doesnt lose its viscosity when it heats up so makes contact softer.

anyone else heard of this/ used it?

this time i was on a wet road, i was stopped and when i went to take of it started wheels spinning and so i tryed to get traction, it deffinatly wouldn't have revved past 4,000rpm then it stareted to get traction then loose traction and about 3 secs after the wheels started spinning the diff went BANG! so yea this all happened within about 3-4 secs max. thats one thing i dont get... why MY diff's keep blowing, the only things i could put it down to were power and 28yr old parts. i run the 4.1 ratio and i was also thinking i have seen other cars do many burn outs on standard diff so why do mine keep breaking

it just keeps blowing the spider gears
