Fuel lines in car

Hey guys

the new motor needs a fuel return to tank, which my car oddly doesn't have.

As such, I have decided I could probably run a return right through my car, under the carpet, out of the way, with high pressure fuel line. I know you can do it under the car with the normal lines, but they need to be covered with metal.

Is this a shit idea? Even temporarily till I can get it to a brake shop to bend up some new lines for it...

Also, I need some fittings for my surge tank, but they all seem to be in "AN" sizes. I was told my surge tank has 1/4" thread fittings. Any idea which size in AN I need?

When I had to make my fuel return line, Zep and I rang up a cert guy and he told us they have to be metal. I think the idea was that the rubber lines could fray over time. Not too sure but thats what i was told. So i ran down to auto stop when they sell metal fuel line by the metre and bent a new one up my self.

Use copper nickel bundy tube, can buy from bnt and places of such like in a variety of sizes, being copper it is pretty easy to form. As for your surge tank you'll find the fittings will probably 1/4 BSPT. AN fittings are pretty specialised and are pretty expensive, earls and such like use AN. Incidentally a lot of compressor air line fittings are 1/4 BSPT, and they are usually brass which is fine for fuel.

You can run fuel line through your car, no problems with it. It cannot have any breaks in it inside the car though - must be one piece and have fittings out of the cabin.

Mate has bundy tube fuel line running through the cabin in his mini and has no problems at all. He just bent it up carefully by hand. He did it because he does autokhanas etc and didnt like the idea of rocks going into his fuel line.
