rwd 323 engine conversion

hi i have a 1982 323 rwd wagon and my engine is about to shit its self, any suggestions on what to put in?? something later model. i am on a budget but still want something cool maybe mx5?? any tips etc will be helpful.

best choice is prob a 2l motor from a 626 or 929 of the same era. MA motor maybe?

1400 go for the old 2l motor...

i got a bpt in mine cost way past 1400.

On a budget wouldnt the cheapest conversion be a rotary since its easy swaps. Or is 626 just as easy. Engines look similar.

A guy i know put a MX5 engine in a 323, dont know how easy it was or anything.

a rotary is always an option but all the rotarys iv seen are around the $2500 mark so yea....wat bout jst a bp 1600 mx5 engine..ther was one on trademe 4 a grand

an mx5 engine would be cool, my sister has a mx5 and even though its a girly car its a very nice car to drive and the engine has 115bhp standard which isnt too bad for a 1600

yea if anyone wants to sell me any kind of mazda rwd engine i would be keen...

a 1600 mazda motor will be a b6 motor not a bp motor a bp is a 1800.

if you could buy one for $1000 you've only got 400 to install it, wire it, make a custom drive-shaft, cert, radatitor etc... i can't see it happening.

yea so an 626 engine might be the go and will go much harder then the old 1300

I put an MX5 engine in into a RWD 323 was an easy fit, ask me questions and ill tell you everything yopu need to know, i used the MX5 gearbox with a RX7 tailshaft and bongo van selectors

whats the story with mounts for the bpt/mx5 engines into 323? and are 323 crossmembers the same as 626?

LIES!! Ive done it aswell and it was an absolute fucking slut!! It will depend largely if you want to notch the firewall or not, if you dont (I didnt) youll have fuck all clearance between the engine and firewall and the weight will be too far over the front. the radiator has to go in from for the slam panel (rx radiator with both outlets on one side) and you have to flip the thermostat cover to change the radiator piping (no biggy)

I used th factory mx5 box with rx7 s1 tailhousing conversion and used factory gearlever hole and modded factory gbox x-member.
