CaMpylobacter
So, with a T3 running between 12-20psi, Should I be running an external wastegate, and if so, what size? I wouldnt think there would be any point, seeing as a t3 would have an internal wastegate, I honestly don't think it'd have merit running an external with the internal still taking up a whole lot of room on the exhaust housing. If it were me I'd only run an external if the exhaust housing didn't have provision for an internal wastegate, it'd piss me off having somehting sitting there doing nothing. most cunts with externals only have them for wank value anyway, even then, half of those that claim to have an external are probably wrongly naming their shit "screamer pipe" or whatever..... esky boi
So what are the advantages of having an external wastegate over an internal? They both do pretty much the same thing dont they? Oh yea and what exactly does a screamer pipe do?
Guest escort_boy
And i think he means an external wastie. You run one when you are either running lots of boost and the standard wastegate isnt holding boost anymore. Or when you upgrade to a turbo with no internal gate.(usually bigg huffer)
esky boi
Ah yep there we go, should have read back through there abit more thoroughly haha. So external wastegates are just there for wank factor then if they arent needed? (ie. standard turbo, standard boost) And what about screamer pipes? Ned
if your internal cant get rid of the pressure quick enough, you get an external. its just to stop too much pressure building up. (kinda made this up, but it sounds logical... right?)

davidian
Oh yea and what exactly does a screamer pipe do? i believe this is just a name for a externally vented wastie
drftnmaz
eh? where else would the boost come from lol i thought your car was twin charged????????? or am i thinking of someone else? screamer pipe is wen you vent the gate externally insed of recycling it back into the exchast system. and dlvrcr is rite about the reason behind them. you can port out a internal gate and put a bigger flap on it etc... but u'll never really get it past 25mm or so, after that you get a external wastegate (i think smallest is bout 32mm) when you run a external you weld the old internal one up. you shouldnt loose boost wen running a bigger intercooler it should just come in a little later (lag) unless you gate was too small and it was boost creeping
Guest escort_boy
Screamer pipe is solely for wank value and it totally illegal. I was told bby some one that these are legal if they are exited in the rite place? is this not the case?
drftnmaz
i've seen them run all the way to the rear of the car so that could be legal but you still have noise resistrictions so its just pointless

You're probably thinking of my mates Capri, which at one stage, was turbocharged and supercharged..

Gaz
All I have to say is watch out for imiations. Make sure you buy the real deal as the fake ones DONOT hold boost. Which as read above is their job.

DavidTheCreator
after hearing my mates external on his turbo civic, i dont think that i will ever own a turbo without a external wastegate..and a screamer on the side just to sound even better
Gaz
Yeah imitation tial i have heard some shit about. But i have had experiance with a fake gready one and a fake HKS one. One from trademe and the other for a performance shop in hams. Youll know if its fake mainly from the price. Just go tial and a expect to pay around $400+ mark.
