kyteler
Im not in auckland but shizzl is and his is a Pinto 2L by the looks. If i remember correctly you need; Engine Mounts Oil Pan Oil Pickup Sierra 5speed (not necessarily you coud grab the 4spd from the Cortina you took the Pinto from) uhmm... some other things. http://www.spannerfodder.com/ has all the info on their somewhere and if not the guys are really helpful as well. shizzl
yeah bo... my 2l uses esky mounts from the original 1300...clears the firewall by 10-15mm,it does have a modded sump though,im using a rs2000 box.. you will need to had a driveshaft customed up no matter what box you use.and a gearbox xmember, depending on boxes though,i had a mk5 cortina xmember on my last esky...youll need to trim on the radiator support panel and get a b2000/mk5 2l radiator or better..mount that flush with the front of the engine bay,the core is a perfect match for the gap.... theres a 2L esky at bj's in wiri but someones already taxed the mounts, maybe you should go grab the sump and pickup.... have fun.... Jerm
cheers for the help i might try getting that sump in wiri, but i doubt i will have time so many options, is it possible to keep the 1300 gearbox i have got? (5th is for chickens).... then i would just need radiator, engine, modded sump.... ? .. how do i go about modding the sump? or where can i go to get it done? anyone in aucks i can have a talk to about it? or if your real keen i'll give you like $300 show/help me do the conversion. cheers

Jerm
really... i didn't know that.... i don't much like the fronts on the rs2000s aye... they rae twin head lights with sloping grill right?.... hey shizzl got any time on the weekend? might be keen to come have a look at your eskie if thats sweet
si
If your really keen, A 2L ford Zetec engine would be the way to go, (they bolt into cortinas with cortina mounts) but not sure about the mounting on a escort, yes the engine is out of a FWD yes it will bolt to a sierra 5spd only thing that may need to be changed is the water rail to move the thermostat housing to the front. http://www.palmside.co.nz they can get the parts in for ya si[/url]
shizzl
yeah should have time on saturday.... not all rs2000s had the droopy front..i think they were the later model ones like around 79/80...?????
Bistro
Nah, all rs2000s had the droppy front. Some escorts came out with 2lts but wernt rallye sport editions and therefore didnt have all the strengtening and other features like the droppy nose. there used to be one model rs2000, but in '77 or '78 they changed it so there was a base model, and a custom model which had added luxuries and also a vinal roof with sunroof. There was also a 'series x' model which was brought out that had a tuned pinto @ around 150hp, and a wide body kit and other bits and bobs. dam, i know too much about esky's hehe
Snoozin
What you call "series X" was what was the "X pack" for a Mk2 Esky, and from what I can gather, various X pack bits could be fitted to pretty much any Escort.
shizzl
in the uk they have normal looking eskys stated as rs2000s...
trunk-rattlin
its kinda pissing me off, but carnut keeps turning posts into car history in NZ keep it on topic please
Baxter
A bit of car history: No, not all mk2 RS2000s have the droop-snoot front. Ford Australia made ones with normal flat front (and I think so did South Africa as well). I don't know if they were all badged as 'RS's, but certainly many were - I'm pretty sure the RS ones were all 2 doors, but they also made 4 door 2-litre Eskys as well... I don't know about mk2s, but all 'export' market mk1 Escorts have stronger bodies than the UK market - very similar to the GT/RS body (type 49 shell). Both drop-snoots and flat front 2-drs were homologated for racing as RS2000s. All RS2000s in NZ are special imports, and there is a mix of UK, Austrilian, and home-made replica ones about... On topic: I haven't done it myself, but have considered it many times - there's heaps of sites with lots of detailed conversion info, try google (particularly the UK version http://www.google.co.uk). Some people are now fitting the injected Serria motor, which I imagine would be great in an Esky. The 5-speed is a cheap enough box and just as easy to fit as the Cortina 4-speed, and it will make for a heaps better end product.
Jerm
mine is a manual i am told i might have some trouble with the 5 speed cos it will be a tight fit
kyteler
The trans tunnel on the manuals is smaller than the auto trans tunnel on escorts but the 5speed still fits, there just isnt as much room around it, and you might have to cut or dent a few bits here and there.. no biggie.. 5 gears is worth the effort.
