w'cked
switch switch switch has anybody got a kill switch in theyrre oldskizzle ride caus its so easy for ppl to rip cars off and i dont want mine fully taken so i think a low key hidden kill switch is teh way to go. what have you hooked it up to to kill, fuel/power to somethin, what works best? and what electtriccal components will i need? thx all- w'cked
alfalfa
i think something on the ignition is the way to go, thats what ive seen on some friends cars, and it seems to work pretty good. and make sure its in a good hiding place, sometimes you can just rewire a switch already in the dash to be the kill switch for something you dont really need (like the fan or some shiz)
Jerm
yeah i am planning on doing on eon my car.. all you need is a swithc ........then you just cut positive ignition wire i would assume and extend it to wherever you want the sitch to be and solder it up.... so you can't start the car unless the switch is on... you need to conceal it well though otherwise they will find it easy and just cross the wires.. i spose
Guest escort_boy
i got one in mine and its how jerm said. its hidden somewhere easy for me but out of view of car thieves !!! if hte switch is off the car want turn over, if its on it will

oLdSkOoL1
im gunna make a panel with like 10 switches on it like the 3 way switches and have them all wired up randomly so you have to know which switch goes up or down etc

Guest hamish
i got one in my seven, the previous owner made it/installed it (he's a techie) it kill's the fuel and the ignition, so even if you do get it started, it'll only go for as long as the ammount of fuel is left in the fuelline, in other word's round the corner
ROTA NUT 13B
Yeah got one in my seven too, it cuts the fuel pump so yeah it won't go for long then they'll just flatten the battery tryin to start it again
Will_8v
better to use relays than switches, then you don't have to turn them off to 'immobilise' the car... a cool setup is a magnetically operated relay at a secret point behind the dash... place a magnet on there, start 'er up then magnet off and away you go... Jerm
hahah will... what is the point in that? you have to carry a magnet around... i think that is more annoyingn than having to switch a switch..........
alfalfa
nah just have the magnet chilling somewhere else on the dash, then you just move it to the rite place. but ill agree having 10 switches mounted side by side has some mean intimidation going on... specially if the theif did bursary stats, cos there are 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 possible combinations... thats 1024
zep
... chances of a car theif having done bursary stats, rather low Just one or two should be sufficiant, if it dosent start the first time, the theif isnt gonna hang around too long to figure out where hidden switches are (lets hope). Guest dodgy_rotors
hahaha i wouldnt be keen on having 10 ugly switches on my dash and theres no way i could eva remember tha combination im gona put a main kill on the battry cable in cab( putting battery on the deck- its a ute) and also puttin a switch on the fuel pump wire
big tymer
yea ive got a fuze holder and fuze on my fuel pump/ign in the engine bay with a switch also inside cab i dont leave my ute anywhere to get stolen in the first place
si
Rather than go for a switch to turn off the fuel pump or electrics, the previous owner set up a unit to block off the fuel line, I recall i think its a simlar solenoid thingy (blue bit) they use in petrol/lpg setups. altho, a setup like this, with the kill switch in teh GO positon uses bout 2AmpH, so dont forget to switch it si.
