  1. Today I have cut/drilled etc. all the parts for mounting the battery box in the frame. I just need to weld some studs to the bottom of the battery box so that I can unbolt the whole box to take the battery out. Then I need to tack the rails in place ready for welding later when I have the engine out. I whipped the carbs out today as well to order some new jets to suit the pods. Next little project will likely be the exhaust and painting some bits.
  2. All finished and welded. Proud to say, start to finish I have made that part 100% on my own. Now I just have to make the bracket on the frame for it. Have borrowed some 3/8" pipe from work to make a couple of rails to go across the frame and then will put a small platform across them to sit the battery tray/leather case on. Stay tuned while I fuck up a perfectly good CB650 frame. Not sure how yet, but I'm sure I'll fuck something up. Already have to weld up a cut where I went a little far with the grinder...
  3. Off topic but... Harley? wtf! FINISH YOUR LOYD!
  4. Rear sets are a score!
  5. over the past week or so I have started pulling the bike to bits. I've stripped down the forks and front caliper for rebuilds and painting. I've got new seals for the forks but still have to track down a rebuild kit for the caliper. I also ripped out the old airbox and rear mudguard etc. I got an old leather case from the swapmeet a few months back that I'm going to use as a battery box. Since my fabrication skills aren't crash hot, I thought I better use the skills I do have to make it a bit easier, so I cranked up the solidworks sheet metal tool and designed a tray to go in the leather case. Folded it up today and I'm totally stoked with how it came out, fits snug as. It also has mounting tags folded into it for the indicator flasher and starter sollenoid. I also got some pod filters, they are a bit big but look like they should be ok. I picked up some GS side covers a while back before I was going to use the pods. Can't decide which looks better, GS side covers or open. I like the idea of it being open but like the look of the side covers. Thoughts? Also my new levers arrived, and once again, don't really fit nicely with my flatbars and forks. So i've ordered some clip ons and will mill the handlebar mounts off the tripple tree when I get it so I'm happy with it. That will also allow me to pull the forks through a little bit Pics - Enjoy (sorry for quality, lost my camera today... but then found it again...)
  6. Just spent some $$ on ebay. New fork seals, pod filters, brake levers and master cylinder are on the way
  7. This update is mostly just because after about 6 weeks apart I'm happy to have my cb back in my life. I rode it to work the other day, frickin loved it. Sadly though, from being tied in the trailer for nearly a week the fork seals have blown out. I was going to replace them this summer anyway so not such a big deal. I've ordered a new gasket set and a haynes manual. Going to order some more brake seals and fork seals and brake pads and bits and pieces this week. I'm planning to ride it once or twice more this week and then strip it down for a bit of a restoration. Not going to go too far into the engine etc, just replace some key gaskets and seals to stop it all from leaking. Deadline is 28 feb to have it back on the road...
  8. I haven't run that code for a while, I think it still has a few bugs. I might send it out some time if I ever get it finished, its bloody hard to follow unless you understand finite element methods, and even then I suck at code so its hard as to follow. At this stage I'm planning on using late cortina hubs. I was going to use MX5 but couldn't get the geometry to work with a few packaging problems. Then I was going to scratch build some, worked out the geometry I wanted/could get, and it turned out bloody similar to the cortina ones. So thats what I'll use in the current iteration of the plan.
  9. That is one sick cx
  10. I have a feeling the limit for an unsprung trailer used to be 50km/h or something stupid like that EDIT: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/factsheets/13d/trailers-light-simple.html That might have gone out when they changed it to 90km/h
  11. Cut off an old repair this evening. I bought a spot weld drill from ebay, makes this job so much easier! So now there is a big hole. One of my mates has some sheet metal benders that I'll use to fold up that section of upper guard. I chose to make the cut below the line of spot welds so that it will be easier to clean up with the grinder and it will be easier to hide the join. At some stage, someone has had the whole guard off on this side by the looks. I think it has also had a whack in this corner and hasn't been straightened properly, the panel gap on the hood is pretty big. While I've got a lot of strength missing from this area I'm going to try and pull it straight. I'm thinking I'll brace the chassis rails together and pull the top of the guard in from the chassis rail on the opposite side. Hopefully that will work out!
  12. See you lot tomorrow!
  13. Can't believe I'm finally making an update to this! Finished repairing the A-pillar I've rebuilt quite a bit of it now. Feels good to finish another patch and have it looking good. Might redo the front of that sill though, reckon I can do it again better haha. Also thinking I might build a rotiseree. Hopefully there will be more updates soon now that I am back in the same town as my car! Discuss //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/26447-anglia4s-anglia-zetec/
  14. My dad has one of these. Its awesome. It has monsoons and they rule. I dig the flares as well. pimp mods to dads one include a trans cooler and airbag spring assistors. It has fancy plastic woodgrain covers on heaps of the inside and a real nice wooden momo wheel. I look forward to inheriting it some day.
  15. I think the idea he is after is more of a roller than a bender like the pipe bulldozer type things or even the mandrel bender rookie posted. With a roller you can get whatever radius you want. Would be mean for doing custom bike frames
  16. I'm watching this with interest! One of these is on my to buy/build list. (its a bit list...)
  17. Yeah everyone is really stoked with how its handling straight out of the box. Needs to go on a diet some time though, its bloody heavy. +1 for sunshine! We just got some wets fitted up last week though, cos if we didn't, it would definately rain
  18. Even though I can't make it, my dad will be there racing in lightning mcqueen. Its his first race meet ever so make sure you yell and heckle as he goes past!
  19. In my experience when I have taken cars through the vin process, if they found rust or old repairs then I had to get a repair cert. If you do tackle the rust without getting a repair certifier onboard to start with, make sure you take heaps of photos of the repairs and welds. I think they like to see them before they are ground back too. And choose your repair certifier carefully. Some of them are complete wankers.
  20. Yeah man cheers for coming along! We had a great time! What happened on your mad exit? I heard the angrybox took to beating up kerbs?
  21. Just when you think it couldn't get any cooler... It gets so much cooler! Also Hi Mrs Sheepers(?)!
  22. DON'T ASK QUESTIONS JUST DO IT! V8 capri's are the best thing ever. I'd 5 speed it though. /I'm no help at all haha
  23. I'd be telling fibs if I said I hadn't been lying in bed every night for the past week planning what i'm going to do with my anglia in the coming months. Yup, should be a qualified mechanical engineer now, assuming I got all the paperwork sorted.
  24. So yeah, This thursday!
  25. Our race car has a square surge tank and its fine. System goes like this: Lift pump fills the surge tank, this runs continuously and there is a return line back to the main tank. Then the main pump sucks off the bottom of the surge tank and feeds the carb. ^Just noticed a key word in my sentence is carb, dunno if that makes a difference
