  3. Now returning you to your reqularly scheduled programming. Gathered up my balls and cut two big holes in my decklid. like this. insert here. and weld that sucker up! cut and repeat. didn't take alot of pics, took me just over a week to complete, once I had committed to the placement. super happy with it, a little more hammer work and some bog and it should look sweet! Like this rather famous fucker!
  4. I stalled the bug coming off that ferry/ramp once, restarted and dropped the clutch for sweet steel skids!!

Cheers Rusty, that's a good run done for a noob like myself to follow. The PPG shop also quoted the "mack daddy" system which included a epoxy primer, 200 bucks more than the Wattyl stuff so you must get what you pay for. I'm out in West Auckland, Te Atatu. I've gone back and forth so many time between a rattle can job and fake patina, but the under side needs proper paint so i might as well paint the whole thing. I 'll just be stripping the bug with a grinder and sander so will need something I can do in stages. thanks again guys!

No don't think it is, so I guess it isn't epoxy. What would be a good single stage top coat? A 2pac is hard and shiny without a clear or is it a must?

Thanks for that bro, don't want to be doing this twice. Is wattyl super etch any good? Is it a epoxy? I have watched gun man, good info.

okay guys, getting close to paint now, I've now finally finished 99.9% of the rust/metal work on the bug. so the next step is proper paint, this is where I'm up to at the mo, the grey is weldable primer, brown is wattyl rustkill and the rear lid is covered in a product called Tetracure P10 that I bought at the start of the resto, but never really used. After lots of reading the basic plan was to bare metal everything, in stages, paint on the P10 then start bog work, prime, spray on filler and topcoat. The guys at the PPG shop said the P10 should be fine but you can't bog over it, bog on bare metal then P10. They also Quoted me a couple options starting with Wattyl Super Etch, Dulon one shot primer filler, PPG Autothane+Hardener and thinners. Also Wattyl super etch, Autothane 1k primer filler, Dulon colour, PPG thinrs and Autothane 1K Diamond Clear. Plus another much more spendy option which I won't worry about. does this sound about right? which option would give a complete noob(me) the best results?
  11. right turns out these spot welders are a quite a nack to learn. had plenty of practice this week! photodump, but I'm kinda stoked the shell is done.
  12. Nice man, don't think I've ever seen one of those before.
  13. This all looks very familiar.....
  14. Ultimate rat looker bro, is it very rotten? 10speed, I just took the shell off my pan again if that helps?
  15. cool to see the wagon getting some love kk, please do have a good think about the container, I don't know if they all do it but I went with my fatherinlaw to move a bunch of stuff out of his self storage lock up, which was just rows of old shipping containers, and I could not believe the amount of condensation hanging on the roof. Any thing fabric etc would have been ruined.
  16. I believe that is the plan. so cool watching you bring each area back to how it should be, very rewarding.
  17. yeah top fucking marks to you dude!
  18. So anyway! awesome work mate, well done on bringing this thing back.
  19. I think I have enough lights now. the back two are the ones that were on the car, the two on the left I found at the dump shop for $5 each and the one next to them in the middle is a 50's oval era light, with the cool old greman style script Bosch logo adn VW logo at the top, the glass lens on top of the other two also has the VW logo but is a hella lens, some are German, some aussie. Most of the rings have a little pitting and rust and/or dents, some have two rivets at the the bottom, some had one, one has Bosch pressed in the top of it, nearly all different which shouldn't be that surprising as they made them for so many years, I should be able to make a ok pair out of all this. dreaming again
  20. ah shit, I can't see any pics any more either, no filter I checked, pornhub still working.
