fyi speedo runs off the front left wheel you can see the cable fixed to the bearing dustcap if you take the hubcap off...

I've just washed the beetle ready for this... fingers crossed the gearbox behaved itself

yeah I will once I get some disks on the front... and maybe a new gear box... originally I had ideas of swapping over my old engine for WOF's but its just too much work... the old engine comes in and out as a unit but the new one needs everything taken off it (carbs, exhaust, oil system etc) for installation and removal....

yeah, I'm pretty pleased I've taken a car that came with a 40hp engine swapped in one that is probably something like 300hp and upgraded nothing

it's a 2387cc yeah I'm a bit paranoid about the potential engine temps, but the oil cooler(s) should be helping a lot with this and the tinware is sealed pretty well. The next phase of the project is to fit a bunch of sensors to the engine so that I can keep an eye on things besides remaining fuel... and your call on brakes is accurate... will need to source some discs asap would be keen to have a look at your project, and also p-stars buggy at some point so a trip out west is on the cards... but also I'm hoping to take it to caffeine and classics in the weekend...

Well that was short lived... driving a long the motorway making blow off value noises.... waiting at the lights at the off ramp with the clutch in... release the clutch and it seems gearbox has locked up... manage to push it to a traffic island (with the help of an Impala driver).... sigh.... off to google the symptoms now...

so it's all done, bar some tidying up... have taken it for a proper drive this morning, and probably barely used more the 1/8th throttle, it feels fast... pretty pleased

so the last piece of the puzzle arrived this morning... programmable ignition, should work a bit better than a locked distributor

so in a little more detail... currently has screamer pipe, might be legal this far back? also has muffler, but I also have a dump pipe to replace this with when going to the track has fuel pressure reg and guage in the crappiest place ever - but kind of works has a wide drop sump, total oil capacity is about 6l now, also provides a handy return point for post turbo oil also has a proper oil filter, first time I have had one of these on a vw it also has one of these bolted underneath...
