  1. I'm running a 24mm on my 70+cc Gyro, it's about perfect sized for the engine. 12mm would have been such a restriction! Engine out, again. If I wound the idle hard in the carb wiggled into place, bit of hacking-I mean shaping- of the inner skin + grinding the adjustment screw right down small gave just enough clearance, 1 hole through the outer skin to let a screw driver through to adjust and it's done! SO MUCH COMPRESSION!!! I want to index the cam side cover so the "CDI" writing is level, there's a little tab that sits it where it is and this on the inside Can't see much reason I can't just put it on level?
  2. Yeah man, I'd be thinking 28mm should be a decent size for it tbh. 19mm is way too small imo
  3. Yeah mate the VM26 can be set up for 2t easy, Mikuni sell 2t emulsion tubes for them. Another option for less $$ is the 24mm PWK I've got sitting here waiting for a good home, you've got a lathe so it can easily become any size up to 28mm...
  4. So yeah I'm bored with it already. Hopefully this lot may help relieve the boredom Ported big valve high comp head with added squish band etc, balanced high comp piston with enlarged valve cut outs to suit the head. "easy start" CDI with switch-able adjustable rev limiter and a genuine Mikuni VM26 carb with adapter to suit my manifold.
  5. Fenix R31 radiator is what I'd planned to run in it, from memory it looked like a bolt in.
  6. MK3 Cortina has rear bowl sump too, won't fit in an Escort either.
  7. Wasn't going to post this, but threw a couple little clips from the train station together. Phone speakers likely won't convey just how loud the little bitch is!
  8. Yeah man, Friday 13th of April Should be a bit of fun/I'll end up dead trying to ride a 140 in Auckland traffic
  9. @MichaelJFox bring the Chellli for a lurk, would be epic to get 3 or 4 of them together!
  10. Been running about everywhere on this thing the last couple days, getting the tune a lot closer! Think I'm going to have to make a removable baffle for the pipe, it's louder than every other bike I've seen this weekend bar one open piped Vrod, don't think I'll be able to pass it off as a 49cc long ha!
  11. 15/38 is the stock 49cc ratio, I'm not in first very long at all either haha! Love the looks I get when get my 1-2 shift right and hold the front wheel off the ground most of the way through second /When I don't panic and lean forward anyway
  12. 15/31, thinking of trying a 16t front but I'm loving the acceleration haha
  13. Tops out at 90k, but shit does it get there rapidly and feels a lot faster!! Trying to get my hands on a bigger carb next, only really need something with the mixture on the side rather than underneath since the frame blocks all access to it, so might as well go bigger at the same time lol
  14. It's a blast to ride! Still a bit of tuning to sort out as it's really rich down low at the moment and I've not yet really opened it up ha Haven't kept that close an eye on the cost tbh, but I think I'm somewhere around a grand all in, wholesale prices on pretty much everything helps a lot too. Yeah the hill has been getting a lot of work, they harvested all the pines last year and it's all being planted with natives etc.
  15. Friday the 13th, keen as for an evening pest and burger etc. @chris r suggested a decent sounding burger place. Think we'll be free most of the day Saturday too
  16. Got my hands on a short length of 50mm OD SS tube, so que my first attempt making a decent muffler Got a sheet of FMF muffler packing, it promises to add 2hp! lol Even with the muffler this bitch is loud! Got a letter from NZTA today letting me keep the black plate, so I went straight to VTNZ and got it rereg'd, so now it's all legal and ready to go! Oh and because it annoyed @Shakotom so much I shortened the HT lead Just got to go grab my helmet from the in-laws in the morning, then it's time to take it for a pest! Can't wait!
  17. Would have replaced his variator with an overange one at the very least. 90 sounds like he's got a 70cc cylinder and other mods though.
  18. Those rollers aren't that bad. Those variators are decent, it's the same as what Sandy's running in her AZ. Possibly getting clutch slip once it heats up. Try giving it a go without the plastic CVT cover, you might need a couple slightly shorter bolts to get the kick start on without it. That's why I run mine with the clutch exposed, used to start slipping after a few take offs. A factory SJ50 clutch and bell is a good upgrade for these too, 3 shoe, wider and will take Jog springs from memory.
  19. Got hold of some 50mm tube, going to attempt making a short muffler. Made a rear brake pedal, took the remains of the hacked up factory pedal and added an old BSA rifle barrel I had kicking about. Used my Tig as basically an electric gas torch to heat the barrel to bend it, the old hammer forged barrel would have ripped my vice off the bench before bending cold lol Trimmed up the kick start that came with the engine, ground a very deep V, cranked up the amps and loaded it up with filler rod I'm happy enough with that!
  20. Exhaust has been kicking my ass/showing I have 0 fab skills. Goal was always low pipe But there just was no way I could get it around the footpeg mount and have room for the brake pedal etc, I'm sure it could be done, but not by me! Actually made a few different attempts, but yeah wasn't happening. Close, but ground clearance becomes a real issue. So change of plans My old boss drilled out an offcuts of 304 for me to cut a flange from. First try at welding SS, improved a lot after a while, still likely heat wrap it to hide my mess Potatopotatopotatopotato Think I'm going to re-purpose the kick starter that came with the engine, should make a great brake pedal So close now!
  21. After a week of being mucked around by a locksmith that ended up not being able to cut a key for my ignition I got it sorted the other day, took a different locksmith 15 minutes to sort it out. I rebuilt the electrical end of it myself, added new springs and balls etc to the switch plate thing since the old balls were rusted and pretty much flat, now has a satisfying *click* when you turn the key. Also swapped the wires around and freshened up the solder to get it working how I want it. Soo much crap in the headlight bucket! Managed to age the new chrome ring a bit. Needed to test the headlight...
