  1. it is quite hard to grasp until you see it in your garage man... all the stuff/supplies scattered around distract from the main photo, hopefully in a few weeks it'll be back on the ground and able to get some nice clean driveway shots
  2. didn't have time to get my wagon ready for a drift day so i locked the diff, fitted some firmer rear springs and took this for a thrash, lucky for me it was raining in the morning so i got to do some drifting, in the afternoon it was dry and i didn't stand a chance so all i could do was swing O's and drift other peoples cars just brought a 6 speed 350Z gearbox for the conversion, still piecing bits together, will post up info when i know its all gonna work together
  3. dem my wheels... make a offer, i was gonna cut the centers out and fit 4 studs ones... there neg10 offset if your interested pm me soon as you find some struts i'll do your steering arms man.... keep up the good work!
  4. i'd weld abit of steel to it, then pull that out... like make a slide hammer Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  5. sweet, cheers for the heads up!! yea can't wait to do some decent skids, its a fun little chassis
  6. yea i'll prob make the whole cage from 44mm, i don't mind the extra weight, and i spend my days welding up crazy stuff for cars, just will buy a tighter radious handle for my welder as i need one anyway the bender issue has always put me off, but i have a mate that did his own cage with a bender similar to mine but with decent mandrel's/dies and said i could borrow them... ive been looking around and there are some shockingly built cages out there, from the people i've talked to all they are concerned about is not grinding the welds before you send them pics i would have thought picking the right angle when notching stuff would be a prick, will buy attachment for my drill press, but still awkward to get right
  7. yea been reading up on that abit latley, think i'll have a crack at building my own, can't be that hard? just gotta decide on a design and stick to it... alot of info to get my head around and incorporate it it all together to work with the rules of events i hope to enter so yea plenty more reading before i get to bend some pipes
  8. MAX POWER!!! hahaha classic, been meaning to ask how that sticker came to be there hopefully it'll keep getting better, next on the list is cage, seats and harnesses, all requiring money
  9. yea phil not a bad maiden voyage aye! yea ky that would be mint, seeing how i don't even own a camera
  10. so about 3 weeks ago i did a road trip late one friday night to pick up phill's te71 from taumarunui, via hamilton to pick up phill... got on the road about 5pm, and got home at 3.10am, then had to drop tow van back and got home again at 4am.... what a night!! this is what i ended up with then for the next week and a half or so i collected some bits and started a plan on what i needed to do to take it to OS nats... unfortunately i had a few customers cars here and couldn't start working on it until they were finished and gone (im self employed) so the saturday before the nats i finially got to start work on the TE, started by welding up the boot wiper, squirter and lock, then the passengers lock, drivers door mirror holes and then a big patch of rust in the lh rear quarter... had that done by about 3pm when a mate turned up and we started bogging them smooth, we worked till about 8.30 getting those bits finished and patch primed next day the weather packed in on us so i organized a garage i could use for painting, set this up and spent all day on the passengers door trying to get it straight, unfortunately some shoddy repairs meant the lower section of the door had lost all shape and strength and i couldn't get it very straight... got it looking alright and primed this and another repair i did inside the door monday was spent removing the old white and black layers of paint to get back to the brown base, then masked it up and etch primed it all about 9.30pm (the latest i could use this garage till) tuesday i got up early, mixed up some nice thick filler primer up and gave it 3 coats of this by about 10am, then chucked a heater in the garage and waited till 4pm to start sanding back with a orbital and 300, with a few panels requiring a block back during this process... about 8pm we started spraying, 3 coats of a metallic brown colour i mixed up from all my paint slops and then another 2 or 3 (i can't remember, i must have been smashed by then) coats of clear, lighting was shit we were taking turns holding the light while the other one sprayed the paint and had quite a few kamikaze moths immortalize themselves in the clear coat, got outta them about 9.30pm wensday i brought it home looking like this so then i proceeded to make a new 2.25" exhaust cause i old one was broken in a couple of places, and a mate came round and pulled the diff out for me to weld up, but unfortunately it was a 4 spider with tiny inspection hols so i couldn't weld it sufficiently so it went back in open (but the oil we removed was like bubbly glue so was good to change that) then i started it up to find out it had a loose baffles in the muffler and rattled like crazy but no time or other muffler to fix so that'd have to do thursday i got up and stole some suspension bits from my ke70 wagon.. my "off-road" struts from my wagon (usually used for grasskhana's but make for comfy road driving), with 20mm longer lower arms, extra thread tapped on caster arms, roll center adjusters, custom steering arms and custom made turnbuckle thingy, ke70 rear shocks to keep some cutties captive got the steering ratio down from 4.1 turns to 3.5 with a pile more lock and grip ordered some new tyres for the front, and a dissy cap, rotor and oil. then booked a wheel alignment friday i was up early again fitting bumpers, lights, trim, seats and other essitals to stay road legal, then went and got a alignment at 11am, home by 12 to continue fitting more trims and guard mirrors... packed up and left my house just before 3pm, off to my mates work to fit up new tyres and grab a new battery, then a quick stop to get a new brake light bulb and thermostat... on the road at 4.40 leaving auckland, then it straight down to palmy (stopped at ngaruawahia for dinner) to see my mate at "olds cool autos" for a quick catch up and beer, i think we left there about 12.30 to head to rangiwoods, but we got mega lost in a couple of different direction down narrow gravel roads... i think we arrived at ~3am and then had some drinks, i went to bed just after 4am the rest, well you were all there for that clocked 1340kms in 48hours and had a shitload of fun during that time
  11. yea no front bar would make for a horrible driving car! you know snell springs can custom make you a sway bar to whatever specs you want, seemed reasonably priced last time i talked to him, better to go in there and show him rather than call tho... have you fitted rear traction brackets? they go on your diff where the lower arm should connect and then remount the lower arm ~50mm downwards, repairing some of the angle from lowering also some extra track in the front to add some camber will reduce sledging abit...
  12. diesel's have tiny turbos, also twin turbo mitzi legnum 2L V6 turbos are pretty small and often at p-a-p
  13. We are likely going to be leaving between 1-3 so could convoy too, although my car will likely be doing 90-95 rather than 110 if your not down with that then just go i could do 1-3, but unsure about not going 100k, its like a 7hour trip isn't it? don't wanna make it too long, sort a new diff? you got a few days... also i plan to make a quick detour to palmy to see a mate and refuel before heading to camp theres no seat in the new car sorry man, but i think i can pick one up in palmy, could rock a cushion till there? my ke70 one may fit, can't check till its outta the booth/million other things to do and fire is essential
  14. planning to leave friday morning, but knowing me it'll be more like after lunch, say 2pm will check if i have back seat in new car, have a feeling i don't, been way to busy trying to paint it to take note of small details like seats
  15. yea do one with proper clearances and they can hold together for a while, spending $$ on straight cut gears is abit serious when you KNOW it will blow one day, think i've got a old 4wd box here if you need some parts, and a gt4 box
  16. yea snell springs will make you a custom pair for about $230... just need to measure the compressed height of your springs now, then drop them in and say these springs compress to XXX, i want something 30% stiffer than compresses to XXX+20mm? and then they can work it out and tell you the extended/uncompressed height of the new springs in the new rate, see if that suits your shocks, if its too short then you will need to go softer
  17. 370hp in a escort, with a pinto!!!! you legend that on pump gas?
  18. i take it you need a turbo now tho? what about the hybrid ht-18 in a T3 housing a i mentioned a while back? i think my mate still has it laying around, seen them push about 180kw on 4ages before, think he only wanted $250 or so then same up for some garett goodness???
  19. those tighe ones are "Gross vavle lift" so might include the 1.5to1 rocker ratio? so there inlet is 10.9mm & exhaust 10mm total valve lift yours is "cam lift" so works out like 9.52mm valve lift on both, so i guess it is abit smaller than there one you'd probably want to check your clearances if you change that cam, find some play-doh and see how close it gets
  20. the GT2871Rs is abit bigger turbo, will have the .63 rear, be ball balling and have a bigger 56 trim front wheel... its weird that master power don't do anything between the t25 and the to4e, if it was me i'd be looking towards a t04e with the smaller trim wheel and the .48 rear wheel, i'd say 200kw from the t25 will be on the upper limit of the turbo and need to be pushing 18-22psi, and probably restricting the exhaust causing alot of heat where if you went for a smaller trim to4 you would have the option of winding the boost up for ~230kw later if you wanted hard to compare cams, when the tigth one doesn't give a measurment @ 0.050" but i'd say its not heaps bigger than yours
  21. seems like quite a small turbo, if your gonna spend the money wouldn't you want to go abit bigger? or even ask barry for his recommendation, he prob has something else with a t3 flange and internal gate that would suit?
  22. you need to try and do it evenly, so yea go back over the bits already done and keep them hot, once you get the whole thing upto temp it usually stays there quite easily
  23. nah just one side, and it takes quite a while to get it hot enough
  24. i dunno about exact temperature, but i'd say its well hotter than a oven, normally you'd use a gas torch, and first set it so its burning with no oxygen, then run it over the copper just to blacken the surface, then turn the oxy on and heat until the black goes away, then it is hot enough to put in water i've done this at home with a bic lighter to black it, then a gas cooker to heat the copper
