I thought you were tripping balls tbh. There were at least three spare beds in our room. And plenty of roofies to go around. I still have a video of the rain less than a half hour after we arrived. Fuck that place had the market cornered on liquid sunshine that day. (Ask lance) -
These things are amazing off road. I remember one night in a mates one, we chased a rabbit through some sand dunes. They're surprisingly capable vehicles.

Anyone got a spare bed in gizzy on night one? I'm too fucking useless to book my own room. The fellow who booked the room I stayed in the last two years cant go this time round. @Truenotch, you wanna step up and fill Ben's shoes? -
Oh, mk3 (I'm not ashamed of my limited cortina knowlrdge)

It's more about mechanical force than friction I guess?

I ran a (home.made) one of these in my 1200. A rocket scientist (I mean an actual real deal rocket scientist) at datsun 1200.com made one for his rally car. I quizzed him out about the finer points of how they work, and then had a few made. (Thanks Dad) It was a lot better than an open diff. But not as good as a proper lsd. They work like this, There is very little clearance between the channel where the pin which the idler pinions run on and the pin. The slot where is sits it more elliptical than semicircular. The springs which force the two halves apart mean than when you load the diff up, the plates try to rotate. This makes them shear against the pin. And they try to climb away from the pin. (Because of the shape of the slot) but since theres only one thou clearance it cant move far. So that rotational/shearing action jambs the plate against the side gear and prevents in from turning which locks the centre up. They also used to be known as a "phantom grip" diff.

@dirty_leppa is my Blenheim operative. (Although I 5hink he stopped coming here after you called him Dereged_leppa) You and he were mates from BMX circles weren't ya? He works at VTNZ now too. -
Thread jack, I scavenged a makita die grinder from a skip at work. (It reportedly failed a test, but the workshop guys said it went fine, and hadn't done that much work) Barry Bart scavenged it. However the switch has failed to bits. The model tag has fallen off too. Any chance you could supply a replacement from a photo?

I'll tack it, then get S.W.I.M to lay some fat beads at high current. the whole whole time I raped my 1200 on the street/strip/skids it ran a home shortened, unbalanced driveshaft with no hoop. One time at the drags a kp60 with a Ca18det with nitrous lunched a front UJ. Even with the hoop it made an almighty mess. I remember looking under it after it was winched onto the trailer and thinking, shit, I really should put one of them on my car. (But never did)
-
If a driveshaft hoop is welded, does that weld need to be NDT?

Turbo 'busa please.

I only happened across your thread this morning. I must say that despite the fact I'd rather have a bad case of herpes than an English car, theres something strangely satisfying about reading your progress to date. Jolly good show chap, keep up the good work. Also, this is screaming out for a repower with something that will make it shred tyres. Monster Bridgeport would be appropriately rowdy I think.

Kephos253. It will buy you twelve months before bare steel will rust. You absolutely must wear a respirator when applying it. (Can be brushed or sprayed) or it will blow your head off. (I've been high as fuck brushing it outside with a breeze blowing)
