  1. I'm not an expert, but they look like twin carbs off a 323. Not sure exactly what model though sorry.

    CA18-SC14

Nah mate, john just used a ca18 crank. You must be thinking of someone else.

    CA18-SC14

Why are you asking this here?!!!! You must surely know that there are heaps of these on the datsun site. 4trubble, 2doors, and skdmrx are/have done it. John (Skdmrx) said if he did it again, he'd use DE pistons anyway. With the lower boost levels blower set ups use, the higher comp pistons aren't really a disadvantage. Just get a proper head gasket. (Good quality metal one) People almost give away CA18de's. On sensible boost, an S/C14 will be just fine. Just do it man!!! I'm now leaning towards a screw blown CA18 for my 1600. After riding in Dan's old CA turb'd 1600, I have a new respect for them.........
  4. because supercharged motors make instant brutal torque, you'd want to tune your length for further up the rev range. With a blown motor, you just want to get rid of the extra gasses. I'd lean more towards a larger diameter primary, and in more of a medium length. Small dia long pipes are all about the down low.
  5. SD22, and SD23 don't swap easily. A guy I work with has an SD22 for sale cheap. He thought it was a 23, but they are chalk and cheese. Not a biiger engine than what you got, but be cheap.
  6. I once converted an ea81 turbo leone from auto to manual. What a CUNT of a job. It might be easier to pull the engine. Then you can see if the flywheel needs to be refaced, and it'll be much easier to get the clutch properly aligned. Those subie half shafts can be a right pain in the ass when they want to be.

    diff noises

Noise on decelertion is the pinion bearing.
  8. Sounds to me like your axles are too long.
  9. If was an epic day! We rocked down to meet the southern crew, and parked up. A POPO in an unmarked car walked staight up to me and asked if I was organising the event. (Fucked if I know how he knew that) Then he starts ranting about there being complaints about some of the driving on the way down. Blah blah blah etc. (Yawn) Had a great time. Some old dude in Methven in an S12 was waving to us as we rolled past. Had a pretty low key piss up tonite. Lots of sad cunts weren't allowed out. whipish! Got out my go Kart and did boozey laps up and down my street. there were two groups of people out in the street egging up on, and one dude came out and asked us to call it a nite. But by that time we'd blown the rear tyre doing skids, so we had no worries that Amping for the next cruise!

    Propshaft

The NZ hobby car technical manual has all the goss on tailshaft loops. I'd like to run one one day. (Shit, i'd like a lot of things) I've ussually got my old man to shorten mine for me. We sus out the length, then set up the shaft in a lathe, and used a fine parting tool to remove the factory weld onto one half of the yolk at one end. After thats out, use a parting tool again to shorten the shaft by the desired amount. The stick the shaft in the vise with a small spacer on the universal cross end cap on the untouched end with a spirit level on it. Rotate the shaft until the level is dead level. The tap the other end part way in. Lay the same spacer on the end which you're refitting and rotate untill it is dead level also. Then tap it all the way home, and reweld it to the tailshaft tube. Then re assemble the whole lot, and if you can affford it have the shaft rebalanced. I'm fairly sure providing the welds on the shaft look competent, all you need is a recipt for having had the shaft balanced.
  11. I was gunna throw that idea up in the morn, but it's ONLY an idea. We prolly rocking down to vegas. Gunna be a sick cruise! Chris is bringing a three burner on the back of his ute. I got a full car now too. Should be a magic day. Bring your camera Blair!
  12. I'm beginning to think it would make more sense for the CHCH crew to turn off at rakaia, and just meet the the Timaru/Timuka/Asburton people at methven. Otherwise we will be driving a long strech of road for the hell of it. I'm fucked if I know. It's fucking hard to organise a cruise with the club site down. I guess we'll sort something out.
  13. Glenn (510wgn) has the site down to change to a new server, so there's no problems with spam cunts or bandwidth issues. I'm climbing the fucking walls, waiting for it to come back online. Hence why I'm postwhoring here
  14. It's a pity you can't come Dylan. http://www.datsun.co.nz is down for mantainence, and I'm going out of my fucking mind! So I thought I'd post this up here incase some stragglers who weren't aware of it saw this thread and came along. Looking at a map, it's a fuck of a long way. I'll be bringing a rope in case I break something.
  15. I wouldn't use the efi pump unless the reg is a "return style", rather than a "dead head" style. If your reg is just dead heading the flow, it will fuck your pump. If your reg regulates the pressure by bypassing the fuel straight back to the tank (Kinda like what malapasi regs do) then it should be okay. slightly off topic, I run a holley blue on my datsun, with a mallory reg. Because my reg is a dead head (Dead heads the flow) I run the spare fuel out port back into a return line, with a .060 restrictor oriface. This is beacause my pump moves such high volumes of fuel, (By comparison to my engines requirements most of the time) the pumps internal bypass valve will cause the fuel to heat up too much. So it continually circulates.
  16. Datsun cruise Saturday Feb 9th. CHCH people meet at target car park Blenheim rd at 930am. Then heading down to meet the south canterbury datsun crew at the Ashburton skate park. (Not sure what time we're actually going to get there) Then we're heading off to Methven for a Pub stop, before going to the Rakaia gorge for a BBQ/picnic lunch. All datsuns (and maybe the odd old nissan) welcome.

    torsion bars

On a Valiant, you just jack the bastard up, and undo a bolt. (Then get the camber corrected with a wheel alignment)
  18. Seeing those flares, you gotta slam it now! It would look mean as.
  19. I was all set to come. But I'm going down to fight the fire down south tomorrow, and wont be back till sunday night. I'm pretty gutted, but it means more coin to spend on my ride. Win some lose some. Take note of what time tha morrie runs aye.
  20. [quote="filthy one" NA fuck no i'll be going for a look I ment i was boycoting taking my car ...
  21. Shit no, Im not offended in the least! I shake my head and laugh down my sleeve at the bogan munters there too. But The rangiora Car show is more my seen than the four and rotas. I think it's pretty much a given than you're going to get fuckwits at any car event. If some cunt threw something at my ride, I'd make orphans or their children. I choose not to attend 4 and rotas, But I stop short of saying boycot it. Or have I mistconstrued your post? Were you saying you'll be boycoting it, or everyone should? Thats what I thought you were saying.
  22. It's funny, I steer clear of the 4 and rota show cos of all the hairy arse dickheads with their jeans around their knees, and their hats on backwards. Maybe I'm a closet bigan. Just that I wear by black clothes and mullet on the inside. I'd rather wander around in the sunshine guzzling an 8%440, than be packed into a stadium full of pimply cretins ooohing and aaahing over shiny wheels and other ricer shit.

    datsun vr4

There is (or was) 140j datsun on trademe with a vr4 motor in it. He wasnt asking much for it either.
  24. The limiting factor with this method is if you fully slam your car, the shock still had the potential to bottom out internally. Where as with a shrtened shock that can't happen. I was hsown this trick originally by my warrant man. I remember riding in rx2's with cutties. They used to bottom out the shocks, and ride super rough. In time this fucks the shocks beyond repair. But it's fat that with sum pipe and and angle grinder you can slam your car and still have captive springs.
