  1. Dellow in Aus make a range of adaptors to fit local V8s to Toyota gearboxes.
  2. Wasn't that a common problem with Ford gearboxes, a stump pulling 1st then a massive gap to 2nd. Mum's Mk2 1300 Cortina 4-speed had that problem. iirc Sierra's are the same?
  3. Suzuki Carry van 5-speed - same as Jimny 4wd trans, but with rwd extension housing instead of transfer box. Can handle the power of the G13B and M16 twin-cam engines, should handle Avenger power. Light and compact.
  4. They're all knobs on the radio. Bugger, falls on my son's 18th birthday. Should take him on a pub crawl...
  5. Caro aka FSO Polonez pickup? Fitted at various times with Fiat, Ford 2.0 SOHC or Rover 1.4 K-series, and VW or Citroen diesels.
  6. An uncle had one of these back in the mid-70s, towed it behind a Rover P5. Spent one school holidays in it beside the Hurunui River.
  7. Pity it's not in Auckland, could rent it out for a few hundy a week...
  8. An unusual contraption. Who built it, and what for?
  9. http://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/FORD GB 1935.html "Within the Ford organization the 1935 Model Y Popular is known by the designation 19E." Googling the numbers "19E 7222" finds Ford 100E gearbox. https://www.gumtree.com/p/car-replacement-parts/vintage-car-ford-gearbox-genuine-enfo-english-ford-100e-7651a-ref-if1-7n6n-19e-7222/1182378818
  10. You need this signwriting on the van... lol
  11. Suzuki Jimny and Carry van used 8v variant of the 100bhp G13B from the Swift GTi, until it was replaced by 8v variant of the 140bhp M16 from the Swift Sport. Light (G13B about 80kg) and factory 5-speed. http://www.ado13.com/dohczuke/dohc.htm
  12. A common problem in the UK with cars left standing. This is the recommended approach from the Marina forum :- "My favourite way is jacking the back end up, get it nice and warm, then start in third gear, get up to 50-60mph, then keeping your foot on the throttle slam the brakes on, dip the clutch and pull the handbrake. Hasn't let me down yet..."
  13. How about "Residence only", like this?
  14. Would be an interesting exercise if I did. All Aussie Marinas had 3-point static belts in the rear, US Marinas had inertia-type 3-point belts in the front and "retracting seatbelts" in the rear. Is there an age limit for upgrading seatbelts (what has to be done for '60s Mustangs and Chevys)?
  15. Hopefully that means I'll be OK when I re-register the Marina back on it's dead original black plates. SWMBO is not keen on riding in it with the static belts, still deciding whether that's a god or bad thing. lol
  16. Have never looked into those rules. Was thinking of fitting inertia-reel belts into my Marina, which has mounts front and rear for static 3-point belts. Won't be happening if I can't use those existing mounts, just keep it "original" as it's still perfectly legal to drive with just the static front belts. Presume you need to get proof from Mitsubishi that the original mounts met the original and current NZ Standards?
  17. Were export and JDM Starions made in the same factory? If so, I'd expect them all to have the mounts installed.
  18. Jag V12 was designed to handle 8000rpm with 4 valve heads, iirc 2 valve heads max out at about 7000rpm.
  19. Wiki says yes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daihatsu_YRV K3-VE link goes to 2SZ-FE page.
  20. Worse than that, there are CCTV cameras every 60m, there's a speed camera at the entrance of each tunnel, a speed camera after the tunnel southbound, supposedly several speed cameras within the tunnel, and (if rumours are to be believed) average speed cameras in both directions. * dang, Neil must have googled the same search lol *
  21. Same diff as early MGB, so 3.9 ratio an option. But you have a 5-speed, so not as bad for highway running.
  22. You've got it looking so original, imho would be a shame to change the engine too much. fwiw, South Auckland Motors offered a turbo as an option on the Mk5 Cortina, so that would be a period correct mod.
  23. Be better to start with an Aussie 6 Tina if you wanna fit a Barra, factory modified firewall to fit the Falcon 200/250 with a BW75 diff and BW 4-speed. Half the work's done for aleady... https://www.streetmachine.com.au/street-machine-tv/1609/1100rwhp-barra-powered-ford-cortina-video
  24. Try these guys. Page has a chart that lets you work it out from tyre size and diff ratio. www.hemiperformance.com.au Search for Torque Flite 904 speedo gear. Diff ratio should be 3.31 with 2600 or 3.91 with 1600 (according to automobile-catalog.com)
