  1. I have a column in my fuel logbook which has $/100km. I think at the moment I am at about $13/100km. Once got up to about $19/100km when delivering pizza
  2. Around town I get about 6.5 L/100 km if I drive like a granny and put it in 5th as soon as possible. Open road between 5-6 L/100 km, usually driving 100 km/h with a window down. I could probably get it down to 4.5 if I drive 80, but I don't want to hold up traffic/Starlet is pretty boring at 80. These values take into account my odometer error of 7%.
  3. Most recent MSDS for BP 91 says < 1% ethanol
  4. Her car broke down or something on the way. Was waiting for over an hour before I got a text saying their car broke down and a tow truck had to pick it up
  5. Any idea on what he would be asking for it?
  6. Who did you get the gearsets off? I'd be keen to buy a set, depending on the price.
  7. 16th or 17th would be good. Any interesting pubs out Amberley way?
  8. So, here's the rundown: What happened was I was an idiot and put the clutch release bearing in backwards somehow, not exactly sure how this happened... I'll blame being sick. So I ordered a new clutch kit from Toyota (more cost effective than sourcing an individual bearing). Put that in today, checking and re checking that it was the right way around. Works perfectly. Also did alternator brushes today. So in the last week the car has had the following: -New coolant -New engine oil -New gearbox oil -New Sump gasket -New rear main seal -New front main seal -New rear main seal retainer gasket -New timing chain -New timing chain tensioner -New timing chain dampener -New timing chain cover gasket -New clutch kit -New alternator bearings (front only, the back bearing was like new) -New alternator brushes -New steering rack boots And maybe some other stuff that I can't remember. Car now runs like a treat and has no annoying rattles or ticks (the valves still make a little noise, as they should) any more. BAD RELEASE BEARING: Next jobs on the list? Probably a wheel alignment would be a good idea Rear suspension bushings would also be a good idea within the next year or so, but they are still functional WoF in 10 days.
  9. Car's pretty much back together now. Just waiting on alternator brushes. Took a closer look at gearbox, input bearing's not as bad as I first thought. Should still be good for ages. Clutch cable is right on its limit of adjustment and still has a bit too much free play in the pedal so I either need to space it a bit down at the gearbox or get a new cable at some point. Photos are a bit poos, flash on the camera makes stuff look dusty/glittery.
  10. It seems the project section is becoming nothing but Starlets.... Anywho, I started pulling stuff apart today. Alternator is in bits, new bearings ready to go in, waiting on some brushes as it turns out the old ones were on their last legs. Gearbox is off, bearings have a fair bit of play again.... Surely bearings should last more than two years? I'm gonna leave them for now. Clutch is off, turns out the reason it wasn't slipping is that it is pretty much like new, I feel pretty bad about putting a new one in. Doing rear main seal tomorrow (old one is starting to weep), also doing seal retainer gasket, sump gasket, front seal, timing chain cover gasket and timing chain/tensioner/damper tomorrow. Timing chain/clutch components and gaskets are genuine Toyota. Front seal, rear seal and sump gasket are aftermarket. Alternator bearings are SKF, brushes are genuine Toyota. After that the car should be like new, or completely rooted. I'll possibly take some pictures tomorrow. Chur.
  11. This car is too low and has a rotary. Ewwwie.
  12. Had Toyota Festival last weekend. Alternator is making some pretty nasty sounds (ticking) when under load now so I'm going to have to pull that apart as soon as possible and put some new bearings in. This must be pretty much what the 90's looked like (it's a shame I wasn't paying any attention to cars in the 90's...): Here's a pile of pictures from the event: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154072541147049.1073741835.618967048&type=3
  13. Just put a Jap motor in and run 10W/40. /Ling post.
  14. Anyone from here joining the convoy? Leaving from Rolly Inn car park at 12:00 on Friday.
  15. Always difficult to tell, current number says about seventy, which means maybe fifteen but up to thirty I guess. Does anyone know of any other convoys down from further up north?
  16. Decided to give the wheels a little tidy up, not going for a mirror finish or anything as they have to look/be used, also the centre caps can't really be tidied up. Managed two wheels this afternoon, They're a bit of a bugger as they aren't clear coated from factory - they appear to be anodized, making for a lot of elbow grease.... Hopefully by this time tomorrow I should be rollin' on dubs. Also resprayed the driver's side front guard the other day. I'll put up a picture once I have polished it a bit.
  17. Leaving Rolly Inn car park in Rolleston at 12 PM on the Friday for a convoy down.
  18. I'm planning on sleeping in my tent somewhere, but no idea how wise that is.
