  1. I can make the 3rd weekend of march, always keen to help out a fellow OSer. Also I need to bring that book back to you.
  2. It's probably in worse nick than you remembered, it's just that dealing with OS cars has desensitized you to rust in recent years. You're on your way to Barryism.
  3. Baldwin (@malarky) managed to get a WoF/Reg on his bug so we went out for a celebratory hoon up the hills. It was also a good chance to test out my new Genuine Toyota thermostat - heaps better than those Tridon piles of rubbish. The Toyota ones have a far bigger actuator and a stiffer spring - leading to more positive action. They also have a bigger diameter opening, giving higher flow rates. The result is a way better controlled cooling system and no more high temperatures going up hills.
  4. Always blaming the kids aye..
  5. Turns out entry is $30, so I turned around and left. Sorry guys. See you at the next meet.
  6. I think we rocked up around 10 last time. Parked up along the back straight and set up a small BBQ under a small marquis
  7. Who's heading out tomorrow?
  8. How's your spigot bearing in the flywheel look/feel? Also that oil you are running claims to be API GL5/GL6. Your gearbox will need GL4. GL5 has additives which bind to the brass of the synchronizer rings and causes extreme slipperiness combined with synchronizer corrosion/pitting. Get that stuff out of there as soon as possible and make sure it is flushed. If you have driven for any length of time it would pay to pull the gearbox to bits and clean the synchronizers thoroughly (they turn black with GL5 and will remain dirty unless scrubbed). Basically, GL5 will make your gearbox shift gears like shit and cause rapid wear of any brass components. Castrol VMX is GL4. I did the same with my KP gearbox... @NickJ will back me up on this.
  9. I don't actually mean any offence, just a bit of friendly banter
  10. I don't need the power if I'm not carrying your mum around /lingpost
  11. I use Redline 80W-140 in my LSD and it doesn't seem to shudder or make any undue noise (I've only done about 500 km on it so far though).
  12. No meet this month, it's at the Skope Classic next month (There is a stickied thread with details)
  13. So after the big long ordeal of noises and lameness the car is going again: So what happened was that the ring and pinion that came with the LSD (3.909:1) were worn out and buggered due to having been run with no oil for a substantial time. So into The Diff Shop the heads went and the 3.583:1 ring gear was swapped onto the LSD (LSD internals pulled to bits and inspected) and it was set up in my original head. Now the only thing that goes "weeeeeeeeee" while I'm driving down the road is my mouth. The car is a fair bit slower with the 3.583 ratio compared to the 3.909 but I'll just have to live with that. Hopefully the axle seals aren't munted from potentially having the axles resting on them for a week, otherwise I'll have to pull it all down again. 14. I had my best ever fuel economy in my KP when the old points distributor was completely rooted. Sub 5 L / 100 km
  15. Have you checked the coolant condition? Symptoms sound somewhat like head gasket issues.
  16. You might get what you wish for
  17. A go (accelerate) faster bit arrived in the mail today: Since the last update I've done a fair pile of driving - the long way to and from Auckland, covering about 5,000 km. Car's been going perfectly in that time. The new bit is a 6" (U) TRD LSD, I'm gonna replace the side bearings tomorrow as a precaution and check it all over and hopefully have it in the car by mid afternoon. I'm also putting new wheel bearings in as another precaution.

  19. I want an EP71 turbo
  20. Here's how to make your slow old Toyota faster: https://www.facebook.com/rmpolishingandgoldplating/videos/1801182963434874/
  21. Bart makes a point. My friend's EE90 paddock 'rolla drops to three cylinders when you jump on the brakes.
  22. Mayte, ladas are the cheapest classics out there
  23. Have you checked your fuses? (Probably not a fuse as you are getting voltage to the coil...)
  24. Alex, I tried sending you a PM but it says you can't receive any. I'm heading past your neck of the woods on the 30th and would be keen to see your projects up close if possible.
