  1. How is it on fuel these days?
  2. Hesitation could be bad vacuum advance
  3. Fans are pretty reliable, considering old starlet fans keep running for over 40 years without problems. Just run one big fan
  4. My sister-in-law is taking this on an adventure with her boyfriend over new years, they're currently in Houhora in the far far north. Car is probably still going. So far since I have owned this car it has been to pretty much all extremities of the country, without me being anywhere near it and with no failures or fluid topups (apart from petrol) required. Ideal English car ownership experience.
  5. Good old phones, was all in /ling jest, not really making fun of him
  6. Little known fact, to he 4AEG is just a rebranded 6RYOBI
  7. My dad put a wof on this yesterday, just a few small fails like rear seatbelt and number plate light. Still goes for what it is No big puddles under the heater yet either
  8. Over the last few weeks I noticed the diff was starting to make some unusual sounds and was getting worse. I pulled the head out last night, expecting to find rooted pinion bearings or chunks of gears. Fortunately they were all fine, just the carrier bearings were bad. They were the original units that came with the LSD and probably had a hard life. I bought some new bearings and axle seals at Saeco and threw them in after work today. Axle stand test to 120 km/h results were satisfactory, so I took it for a motorway road test. The diff is quieter than it has ever been since I bought the car. Either I got the backlash and associated settings bang on or I messed up. Only problem is now I can hear the gearbox more. Diff shop guy was a GC, swapped the bearings over for free. It's a shame they were out of oil though, had to support repco instead.
  9. Doesn't sound quite right, a 2e should do over 300,000 km two liters low on oil
  10. What grade of threaded rod are you using for the studs?
  11. An itty-bitty 1:43 Starlet just arrived in the mail today, super slow shipping from Japan. It's pretty rare to find a Slant front scale model, this one is made by Hi-Story and there was only one production run for them (this year). The detail on it is crazy, especially the interior. The only thing that lets it down is the wheels, they are slightly lacking in detail and don't actually turn. Oh and the JDM features like mirrors, bumpers and number plate lights. I'll probably just leave it on a shelf forever and let it gather dust.
  12. Would be interesting to try and make a runner that makes use of the ram air effect at points that it is out of tune with the engine rpm by generating little turbulent jets around the periphery to reduce the boundary layer thickness. Could theoretically improve flow between the harmonic points. Maybe I will model something up.
  13. Just check your injectors using a screwdriver and your ears like the others suggest. If you are getting spark your ECU is probably working right, unless Toyota was still using VAST at the time (with VAST systems the distributor will still generate a spark on its own until the ECU sends signals back to it).
  14. I wonder how long rings last at 10,000 rpm. Those earlier graphs of piston location vs angle are quite interesting. They make it ideally suited to long duration cam, can get quite deep into the compression stroke with open valve before it pumps much air back out.
  15. Pretty sure there were some fake braided sleeves to go over rubber hoses in the design disaster or AliExpress threads a month or so back
  16. I don't really want to be a dick, you've done a good job of the modifications but in one thread you go on about how great the cert system is and how fortunate we are to be able to do it legally and then in another you do stuff that puts the cert system in jeopardy. "If people aren't going to follow the rules then we will just ban modifications" /The cert price exceeds the value of the car
  17. The difference is that Clint is a qualified and specially trained inspector who knows the LVVTA rules inside out and has regular training sessions to keep him up to date in the field. The fact that he inspects X cars a day while the average engineer in your situation would only inspect one car a month at best instantly puts Clint in a better place to pick up on faults as he would get a hell of a lot more exposure at that stuff.
  18. Is there a limit to how many lvv certifiers can exist at any one time?
  19. Definitely better to be run separate from the govt. Nzta should really have even less influence TBH. Would be great if there was competition* in the field too. But we can't beg for too much. *Competition ideally results in better quality, innovation and prices

    PAINT THREAD

What sort of paint gun would you recommend to match with this? https://www.aircommand.co.nz/shop/Economy+Compressors/AC15.html I'll be using it for general purpose painting, around house and stuff. Would also be good for painting cars
