  1. Should be sweet? Just P R n D the same as the other box? And don't worry about low? Depends how linkages line up I suppose
  2. Do a skid. Did you really have to ask that question
  3. Foot to the floor in neutral then hit drive. That's the RB way
  4. ^Id just succeeded in being happy with the way it sat over the steels though, and could happily wear my flatpeak* driving it and now its got wheelgap again with the smaller wheels so Im back to square one. That being said those wheels would look lush on my van with wide tyres. (I think theyre 120.65 not 120.0 anyway) So RS are the plan for it. They look similar to that anyway. *IM NOT ACTUALLY A FLATPEAKER
  5. left this outside in the rain over night. jumped in it the next day and my feet got wet. I found that there was water pooled in the ribs in the floor pans. and the rear compartment was quite wet too. Luckily it doesnt have carpet in it so I sponged that out. and went hunting for the cause of the leak. Picture so I remember what it looked like. I started removing parts of the dash to get a better look at the point of the leak, and it appears that the little bit of rust that I saw when i was looking at the van under the dash is leaking. So I pulled the rest of the dash out for access for repairs. As you can see Its pretty much all there and is relatively tidy, but still needs a bit of tlc as its all covered in a layer of dust. I dont think its been apart since 1979 due to the amount of dust and general yuckness behind all this. the top of the glove box for example was about a centimeter thick. Ive got a couple of spare bits stashed away that I was saving for the ute, but the vans priority right now as im thinking about flicking the ute to get some funds. (Mexican blanket is on seat because seat is split and worn out) Also, whats the point of a panel van with out showing off the 'entertainment' area It doesnt look very entertaining though does it? Dont worry, that will be changed. All the yuck carpet that is glued to the walls and roof will be removed. Same with the yuck headlining. Too much builders van SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES
  6. Not much has happened lately. Lots of driving including some daily use during some of the crappiest weather we've had for a while. I purchased a non broken wiper switch so I now have wipers! which has been real handy lately. just need to sort some where more permanent for the switch as well as get my blower fans working as fogged up windscreens suck. had been running sweet until it decided to cut out in traffic in the rain on the way home from work and not restart (the one day I got to finish early) resulting being told to move by two stupid Auckland transport workers because I was stopped in a 'no stopping zone'. then having to explain that it had broken down and this was the safest spot I could coast into while waiting for my father to come to tow me home. It ended up being the crank angle sensor and the coil which appear to have given out simultaneously. They were replaced and (touchwood) its been sweet since! and spent some $$$ ^There 15x7 et0 and Ive wrapped them in 195/55s (Massive thanks to KK for bringing them up from wellington for me!) and if you look at the sill, you can see ive got side skirts now. Are VL calais factory skirts but Ive mounted them (incorrectly) as low as I can on the body. I think it flows well from the front lip. aaaaaand came across these at a price that was too good to miss, Genuine BBS RS in 16x7et11 and 16x8et22. Im going to sell the tyres off them and get smaller ones as the 225s are to square on the rear and rub on my guards to much.
  7. Nice looking VL! Keep us updated with your progress man
  8. Progress has been slow lately, and my computers mucked up so Ive lost alot of photos. (teaches me for not having backups) With the forces of winter approaching lately it was decided to make some room in the garage and stop this heap from taking up two bays. Underneath the body has been stripped back and primed so It was lifted back onto the chassis for temporary while I start prepping the rest of the body for paint. The motor had been sitting on a stand in the corner and the gearbox was too. The motors been stripped of all bolt on bits and given a quick paint (Shiny = Rebuilt right?) and the gear box has been too. I bought a Exedy 'sport tuff' clutch kit and had the fly wheel machined. man that photo is crap. That about sums up how well this went down. Picked up cluch on friday (ordered on thursday overnight) to do it on saturday. Eyeballed parts on pickup was like yup thats sweet. fast forward to saturday morning.fought with old spigot bearing while replacing it because puller was too big. Loctited and torqued flyweel down. went to put pressure plate on and it turns out its too small. Clutch and release bearing were correct. Gave up for the weekend. On monday went back to shop. was a packaging error from exedy. Got correct pressure plate. Went home Monday after work and put clutch on! Whos got keen eyes that can spot the issue here? After mating the gearbox to the motor and starting to put bellhousing bolts in 'hmmm I can see abit much of the flywheel. whys that?' I forgot to clean and fit this sheild. Gave it a quick clean and painted it at work the next day. Tuesday night: removed clutch and flywheel. fitted cover. refitted flywheel and clutch. Gearbox to motor. motor and box back in. I forgot how little this motor was. I hope itll be sweet to turn my 33x12.5 mud tyres. Needs turbo deez!! What a drawn out procedure for what should've been a simple job. But at least now I have alot more space in the garage
  9. Was trying to figure out what was going on with the front of it, then saw the picture with the Pontiac front and my jaw dropped. What a evil looking car. Need photos of coal rolling. Edit: was that a HZ holden grill/indicators/part of nosecone?
  10. Unfortunately the set of turbos that's on it are shit. kerbed with the odd flatspot. But may have another set that's almost mint coming my way for it soon. Greatest wheels ever mate. (Also have hotwires in my stash and am looking for tridents too lol) collect all the wheels!
  11. Thanks for that highLUX At the moment I'm getting masses of inspiration fog custom vans from a well read re released issue of van wheels by street machine. I am wanting to re line the interior with some form of fabric to make it warmer for crashing in the back of it when necessary, but have a stupid leaky vent in the roof that needs removed before anything like that can be done. Also tossing up removing side windows in future as tinting them (intending to anyway) would defeat the purpose of having windows. But not till I fit mirrors to it first because rolling no mirrors with this things blind spots is crazy in traffic. Oh and blower motor stopped working also so now it fogs up and doesn't demist. Electrical gremlins.... And no intermittent wipers either. Defiantly not rain/winter friendly at present.
  12. Dredging this thread up from the depths. Bump
  13. Currently the HZ ute is sitting in storage after finding rust in the chassis that the previous owner had filled with something like No-More nails and mud. Turned out to be a rather large hole right on the inside of the chassis rails where they curve out to go out under the sills. That killed a lot of motivation on it, and its sort of loosely been re assembled to a roller and tucked away. Id been doing some saving for a new daily and had been looking at Silvias, but after being mucked around by a few sellers and sick of seeing plus T conversions and locked diffs I gave up looking for a while. Then this happened... On the trailer is a 1980 Holden Panel Van, and yes its been purchased with the intention of daily driving. It was built towards the end of 1979, and I think it is an Australian assembled version. Its powered by a 202 and has a 3 Speed column change gearbox. Its currently in primer but appears to be solid (after the ute I was alot more cautious) in all the usual places they rust out. It still has the original plates that were first assigned to it back in 1980! It also is all registered and warranted. That being said, I still trailered it home due to it having a leaky font seal and not wanting to have to sort out insurance for it on a weekend. I got it home, purchased some seals on the Monday, pulled it apart, replaced the crank seal and resealed the timing cover. Oil leak be gone!! Then took it for my first proper drive to the gas station and filled it up. The column shit changes smoothly and the motor purrs. Since then Ive used almost two tanks of gas ( and thats been in less than two weeks) Plans for the future are: -basic maintance/service -remove the leaky vent in the roof -tidy up interior -paint (to seal it better) -low? //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36871-shakotoms-1979-hz-kingswood-utility/
  14. Yus. Another hilux.! Plans for solid axle swap?
  15. Not much really... Should be remove efi setup. Source 12port carb manifold. Throw away EST distributor. Fit normal distributor (any 202 one) Maybe refit mechanical fuel pump. Connect wires. Mate converterd a carby 3.3 to EFI in his landrover and wasn't much of a mission Edit: something about grub screws in air injection ports on efi heads or something. Will have a rummage though my manuals tomorrow and see if I can shed and light on that subject....
  16. Car just cut out and won't start on way home from work. Waiting for a tow at present. 7 days to get it fixed so I can have a burger
  17. I hear there are new PBJ burgerfuel burgers
  18. I was at that track day too, saw your car from a distance now come to think of it
  19. Did my first track day a couple of weekends back, it was a great day out. Car behaved perfectly but I did manage to cook the brakes on my last outing and pedal went to floor when parking up after the last session. Little bit scary thinking about it afterwards. Would not have like to have run out of brakes on the track. I had some good battles with my mate in his MX-5 Track day did point out a few things though, Factory seats have next to no lateral support, my suspension sucks and I need a rear sway bar. (Four cylinder commodore bodys dont have rear sway bar mounts) Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36140-shakotoms-84-vk-mayte/page-4
  20. Hello. I haven't been up to much lately on this thing. just enjoying driving it really. but in other news I got rid of my two leftover parts cars. As you know I had a VL wagon. I also purchased a bare VK sedan shell off tardme which i was going to use to replace some rusty parts in my VK. mainly passengers floor-pan and Left rear wheelarch. Pretty much once i had the motor/box/front suspension out of the wagon and it being immobile in the back yard, (along with the VK shell) my mother put up with it for a few months but then wanted her lawn back. SoI ended up stripping the wagon shell and cutting the nose off it aswell as using the floor and both quarters for repairs on my car. That shell ended up being taken to the scrapyard They pretty much grabbed it by the roof with there big claw crane and tossed it at the pile from a distance. It then proceeded to roll down to the bottom and land where it was in that photo. That pretty much has made me anti scrapping cars scrap yards have no respect for them in there final journeys. With that I decided to try and on sell the VK sedan shell that mother wanted gone as it was in to gooder nick to be cut up so I thought id try give it one more chance. Just as well I did, Sold it to a guy whose going to supposedly use it to reshell his VK race car that was involved in a big accident.
