  1. Came up pretty good considering it decided to rain that very afternoon. Has 30mm of fall over 7 meters which doesn't sound like much but it runs good, a small low spot right before the grate but its all good.
  2. And then for some stupid reason decided to subject myself to digging in ap60 on the first hot day of the season With a shovel and a fucking Mattock, should have just got a digger.. Sigh* Boxed it up, Poured it.
  3. Once I'd done the gate posts I sent about putting a drain in the center of the drive so no council Prick could accuse me of having runoff into the neighbours.. Took a while to find a small cast grate that would take 5 tons but finally got one suitable and plumbed a sump into the existing stormwater. And marked out the drain.
  4. Also while this was going on we had to repair every internal door that our friends the asbestos removal dicks destroyed in 2016 (cunts) this took a surprisingly large amount of time much to my annoyance as we could only do two at a time. Rosie also decided they should be white which shows up every fucking mark on the door. Lots of paint and rebogging went on. Coat, Then recoat... Also patched all the jambs and arcs while we were there, much cuntyness. More coat and recoat Rosie had decided she wanted a gold bathroom door, I persuaded her it had to be the inside only, Got my mate to spray the metallic gold with a $50 fence sprayer, fuck he did a good job. Actual looks pretty cool in the bathroom if I'm honest, but most people won't know till they shut the door.
  5. At the same time I started this I also had to clean up this mess and put a small lawn here, Put down some 100x50 edging and some dirt, kids love dirt.. Rakage.. Ready for seed, suffice to say it grew a lawn.
  6. Put some hinges on the gate, Pins in the post.. And voilà.. Painted and put back the original bit of fence that had been hanging around since 2016. This was also the point that I finally took down the security gates that had been there for 6 years, felt very exposed without them. Since the posts are rimu I couldn't leave the tops exposed to water hence the bags.
  7. Boxed the beam up and poured the whole lot with the help of my bro in law, Made a jig to get the kerb angle right, Came up pretty good, ended up having to finish it with my phone torch at about 1130 at night. Still too paranoid to take the gates down at that point after so long with them up. In the mean time Rosie procured these farm style gates for the gap. And stained them in the same style as the front balustrade.
  8. Kids were pretty keen to help out/get in the way as per usual. Holes for the posts had to be about 700 deep, Dug the other side and a 200x300 beam to link the two together.
  9. The end is in sight!! But for now I'll carry on what I left off. The last 3 months of last year disappeared pretty quick but three weekends of that were spent moving shit across country which counts for most of a month I guess. Anyway, after lockdown 2.0 we did a trip to Musgrove's here in chch to see what they had in the way of hardwood posts for the front gate, ended up coming away with a 200x300x5400 rimu post which I cut in half there with the trusty xl12 and threw them in the back of the hire van. Rimu is known for being pretty shit in the ground untreated. The hardwood posts of a similar size were in the thousands and this was only $350. So I set about giving it the best chance of survival by liberally soaking it in castrol 15w40 for a week reapplying it every day. Then I gave the buried parts a few coats of black seal, And then after marking it all out stated digging holes, as per usual I struck concrete on the second chop.. The gift that keeps on giving.
  10. I fudged my old lady's garage that was pretty messed up, had a 10deg lean to the left as well as zero bottom plate, full of borer and a ridge line that resembled someones spine. Tbh I'm surprised it didn't fall over in the quakes. But we straightened it up and its still going to the point were mum put a new roof on it.

  14. One thing I'd look at is the other side of the pressure plate where the release bearing meets the spring diaphragm and check for any wear there..
