look forward to the updates.Whats the spec on the car? We build them in work seemed to be surrounded by them at the moment last count there were 4 mk1 and 3 mk2 not quite that many now but they are still in the majority.

we look after a nice bdg/t5 atlas axled mk1 targa  we seem to do more bodywork on it than anything lol!!

Brief spec on the car before the rebuild was 1600cc Xflow, Kent 244 cam, big valve head with double springs and steel rocker posts and solid spacers. Datsun pistons and twin 45mm Webers.  4 speed Straight cut , close ratio Tran-x gear kit. English axle with a steel plate type LSD 4.9:1 Ratio.  Two link rear end. 4 wheel vented discs and bilstein shocks all round. Quick rack and a world cup cross member. All pretty normal for a rally car of that era. 

Plans for the rebuild are making it look more like a period works escort of the 70's, ie. Satin black interior with correct works twin cowl dash and centre console, correct smiths gauges etc etc. Improving the rear suspension travel by adding mini tubs and a diff tunnel. Adding a panhard rod, proper seat rails and sill mounted jacking points. 

I will still use the Tran-x 4 speed and same rear axle, i may have to change to a 5:1 diff ratio the with the new engine.

Awesome thread mate, so good to see these old cars with a story getting rebuilt.

Out of interest, do you know what flavour Datsun pistons they are?

Correct ! L16 goodness, 

The new engine will still have a Datsun connection , i'm using an L18 fully counter-weighted steel crank which is getting massaged to fit the AX crossflow block. Should be a nice strong bottom end.

AX motorsport block? nice item to have,will you go bigger in cc? nice call on going period spec nice to see the older specs coming back seeing an escort on 16" wheels and duratec engines dont really do it for me.

i shall post some photos on here of the ones we look after and have around us if you would like to see them.

so its bubble arched your going for is it? steel or fibreglass? we turn a lip out on the mini tub under the arch to screw some arch protectors too right out to the bubble saves the inner gaurd getting pounded by gravel.also strenghtens up the quarter panel quite a lot as we spot weld along the flange.its only about 10 to 15mm lip.

Yes AX motorsport block, yep going out to 85mm so it'll be 1760cc. Nice amount of torque ... 

 

Would be cool to see some of the projects in your shop too.

Hi, i'm looking for a Mk2 Cortina 2 speed wiper switch if anybody knows where one is or who may have one.... I have some hard earned cash waiting for one. Same as the top one in this pic.

I stripped them, wire we wheeled them, treated them with brunox then used Wattyl kill rust super etch primer. This stuff is hard as nails . Then top coated with Plasticote satin black.

Cheers.  Just spent  a couple of hours tidying it up before I sand blast it.  Yes have bought quite a bit from them  awesome to deal with.

Awesome, I plan to order a few things from them for the hunter, it's getting a few escort bits swapped into it.
