Popular Post azzurro
Went and had a gander at this and put a deposit on it about a month ago, and finally organised myself to go get it yesterday. Formerly owned by ESKIN8R who i think originally chopped it up and put it together and then Zebra Dude, who got it painted and sorted the draw bar etc. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/26688-zebra-dudes-esky-van-trailer/ (photos are down) I knew i was in the right place! (you will know their works by the trail of bodies) Needed the lights wiring up, + some beers and Ben didnt finish till 6, so by the time it was ready to roll it was pretty late! Ran the gauntlet no troubles at all, and tows well, will go even better with some weight in it. I also managed to convince Ben to through in some schwweeeet rims. In case you are not a wheel aficiondo, they are * 13 x 6JJ * CHEVIOT * TURBO * Anyway today started getting into it, cut down the roofies from the van ( ) hung a gas bottle from a handy attachment and pondered on how to cram a LWB sized vans worth of camping stuff into half an Escort... Solution - Make the small thing bigger with Extentions! Roll * 13 x 6JJ * CHEVIOT * TURBO * to entice only the hottest classiest babes into the stabbin cabin. Need to buy some hardware to mount the doors then start thinking about the interior. Its basically going to be a bedroom for the boy + bathroom and kitchen that I can tow with the 2300, 125 or my daily
Popular Post azzurro
A bit more progress on this. Got some tyres fitted to the TURBO's Got a jockey wheel, fitted the doors and tore off the old purple and ripped tints Picked up a sweet matching Cruiser at the op shop in Taupo, and retinted the windows Made a bad ass friend Need some proper shank nuts for the rims and some number plate lights and a bit of a wiring tidy up and its good to go to see my friendly WoF man, then Van-cessories
artyone
I've a suzuki carry van body I'm getting around to doing this to except I'm going to cut out the middle doors area and then weld it back together... oops, after cutting it into two bits I'll take out lots of the floors as well so I can build a sturdier tubing frame to mount the mini tandem wheel axles... as in the rear axles off a couple little front wheel drive cars. Final job would be taking out most of the glass and sheeting it all over. Great to see such economical use of old steel.
CaMpylobacter
this could be pretty lush!
azzurro
Arty - do you mean duallies,or like wheel in the old arches after cutting out the sliding doors? Cause making a tiny seated, unpowered van with an even shorter than stock loadare seems useful only as, well art? But, enlighten me. My mind awaits expansion like unchewed hubba bubba at the end of the last packet in the bottom of the box. Waiting. *** this could be lush? Could be! How very dare you sir!! Well, I dont know if you noticed but it has * Cheviot * Turbo * rims in the ever popular 13 " diameter and 6" width, with the desireable JJ type tyre mounting bead! CaMpylobacter
mate! the wheels alone make this the best project in the other projects section! are you going to box in those open floor sections at the front at all?
azzurro
Yeah. The front floor skin will be a tool store and will also try to jam in a 12v battery for the interior led lighting etc. Bikes and maybe bbq on the draw bar.

azzurro
wee bit more progress, made a number plate/reverse light mount with lights I got from AALAWS grandads shed and a random bit of ally sheet also got it registered (2016 Ford Escort Trailer) Lady @ VTNZ wouldnt let me look through the pile of plates she had (BUT WHHHHYYYYYYYY!!!!!) but I guess it says "For My '58" and the numbers are pretty close to those on the 125, so whatevs. Other suggestions welcomed on a SAE. Just need to find time midweek to take it for a WoF. Cut up some ply for the floor - instantly filled up with shit again Also bought some some vinyl and some fancy gold foil underlayment. I should have just got the cheap stuff without foil as the foil came away from its foam backing which the vinyl was glued too and made the roof sag. Rip it out and more glue between the layers i guess. May bang in a roof support of some kind to help the ceiling stay up and also to mount a light to. Still need to install carpet and interior stuff will steal all that from the van as well as the sink and etc. Storage will be an issue as theres not really enough room to raise the bed or stow thing up high so stuff will just be loose until bed time i guess, but there is a lot of room underneath for a fresh water tank and the spare tyre (will also check the vans spare winderupperer for possible swapsies).
flyingbrick
I think you should add some sort of air vent. I imagine it will get pretty stuffy sleeping in there with doors shut- and you'll get heaps of condensation on the bare walls
63Ragtop
Steamy windows...
azzurro
Yeah, i agree (hence the fancy foiled underlayment), but its almost too short to sleep in (even for me!) without the door open anyway I may add a cheap shower cowl thing (just trademe seached this - may actually just buy now) Or maybe even a sliding window (from a ute canopy, van or camper*) onto the front end cause its also a bit dark inside. *I also have an old sunroof i could jam in, hmmm
flyingbrick
Maybe you could have Greg make up some kind of canvas roof that clips onto the open doors and end of trailer to box it all in. You could bend up a hoop or two that clip in between the open doors to hold the roof up and stop the doors swinging around etc. This would give ya ventilation, length for ya feet and enough height to stand at the end of ya bed/ get changed etc. Just thinking out loud!! azzurro
Also that. On the van we have a small tarp that ties to the roofies with some extendable poles + guy ropes which is great, but the van is a lot taller and larger inside i was just going to reuse that set up initially, but maybe with a larger tarp to maintain the total covered area but reverse the inside vehicle to awning space ratio. Also, fuck mozzies, so some sort of doors-open-mozzie-proof-sleeping-box-bed-extension may need to be arranged. A bit of ply between the doors resting on a small tab at the door base and the main floor would work for the bed extension, so just need the roof and door opening bit made up + zips and clips.
cletus
More importantly, when are you lowering it?
azzurro
Probably after I get it a fancy new car 3 year WoF, lewl WANTED ESCORT LOWERING BLOCKS! + U BOLTS. 2" Minimum. (could probably go about an inch lower without new U-Bolts)
J-W-G
Aw mate much want! Loving how this is coming along!
azzurro
Got a WoF on this the other day, expires at the end of April 2019! Also started boxing in the draw bar for more storage, which it definitly needs now that I sold my van today ( ) so all the camping stuff from it ended up in this. Errrm, yeah. we might need to travel a bit lighter now I already cut down the sink (mrs wears contacts so its a prereq) just need to fit the 20l water container up and under some how some way (keep coming up with funky ass shit. like every single day). I think it will work ok if i strap it up like a fuel tank filled via the filler with a drain tap on it. So drawbar storage - this is made partly from the bed from the just sold van, which was made from the false floor of the van we had before that and partly from left over 18mm ply from the Blimp trailer me and Euron8 made. See it WILL come in handy one day! Will probably stick some lino on the inside of this just cause. Heavy stuff (like a 12v battery for a stereo, lights and phone charger), jack and such will need to go in the false floor of the van itself, to minimise load on teh tongue, so this really only for light stuff like wetties and whatever. I will fashion a special stick of the appropriate lenght to allow it to sit level as a bench top as well. Closed up the awkward gaps at the sides with the old mud flaps from the van, should also assist with aero as the front is pretty much dead flat otherwise, and ive at least boxed out the massive 'air intake'. The flaps mean its also not fully air tight to help vent the battery a wee bit, but it will only be charged at home on the charger so that shouldnt be to much of an issue I will try to get the spare up underneath once ive figured out the water situation, and put a bike rack where the spare mount is currently on the front i reckon. Just need to go somewhere in it now!
yoeddynz
I like your wheels. They are nice.
azzurro
Chur Bro! I see you are a gentleman of class and taste. Did a wee bit more on this, the interior is pretty much 'done', as in you can now sleep in it without freezing to death, or feeling/sounding like being inside a cake tin. Still a few patches and bits and bobs to sort out, and a few bits i would have like to have done better but that Ados doesnt let go once its on! Also fitted up spare towball to the spare carrier and chucked my bike rack on it. Urh, works fine except its only slightly shorter than the drawbar, so no towing with a wagon hatchback or van :/ . Long term solution to this i think eventually extend the box section the tow hitch is on as the trailer is so short its a real pain to reverse. Short term, chuck em on the roof/get a smaller bike rack. Next jobs, internal electrics/spare tyre mount/plumbing.
