Tacho vs electronic dizzy

2nd Chance

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just got my hands on an old smiths tacho for my mk2 cortina. Thing is I'm planning of changing out the points for an electronic unit, maybe an optic switch. Anyone able to tell me if the tacho will still read (accurately) if I go down this route? Also what brand should I go for/ stay away from?

Thanks

provided you are still running a conventional coil and can take the tacho signal from the same place as it is now (coil negative or coil positive, depening what type of tacho it is) then it should work the same as the electronics are only chaning the switch that is firing the coil.  if you change to an msd or multiple coil ignition system - then things change.
