beachlander
So yesterday I went to go out in my carina. Turned it on, let it glow as usual, then went to start it and got nothing but a whole lot of noise from the relay. Took it apart, gave the contacts a clean and tried again. The relay is switching really quickly, then slows down and stops like all together. The inside of the relay looks OK, doesn't smell like it's burnt out, but haven't checked it yet. Would it be the relay? Or a short sone where else? Proving to be very difficult to find a replacement
johnnyfive
So it doesn't crank over? Whats your battery voltage like?
beachlander
Nah doesn't crank/do anything. Relay just has a spaz then stops. Haven't checked voltage, didn't have a multimeter
johnnyfive
Not just a really flat battery? Don't wanna tell you how to suck eggs etc, just always check the basics.
thegreatestben
Yeah that sounds flat battery as. It would still crank even with bad plugs. My neighbours surf is proof of that for over a year now
Yowzer
A "TIKTIKTIKTIKTIKTIK" sound when attempting to crank is usually the starter solenoid not getting enough juice to fully engage, meaning either flat / stuffed battery or crappy electrical connection from batt to starter or crappy earth.
Yowzer
Could also be a stuffed starter solenoid too, but generally when they fail they just make a single 'thunk' noise and nothing else (or sometimes no noise at all)
UTERUS
Sounds like you got a bad case of winterbatteryitis
DriveBy
This happened to me once, had taken battery out, put back in and didn't tighten battery terminal connectors. Fixed by tightening connectors. Felt a bit dumb but oh well.
