drtdvl
Real good overall. After watching some of those videos (of other cars) I'm surprised at how well planted my car is. I'm going a bit slower, but turn in and grip is really great, I just need to get used to the car and soften the front suspension a little bit to get a bit more mid-corner traction. What happened to your engine? Don't use my car as a indicator for anything, the roll centers are all wrong, blown front shocks, unknown front spring rates, different spec old tyres... I'm surprised with my times given the state of the car really. No idea whats wrong at this stage - a friend is bringing an endoscope over to look in the chambers to see if its valve damage... I'm hoping its big end bearings as they are apparently cheap and easy to fix - but I have a feeling it's top end... I shifted into 3rd a bit too soon and almost over rev'd it but caught with the clutch... I'm also not sure if my oil cooler is working correctly either... Archetype
I've done that in the MX5 too Brent. What point of the track were you doing it? Time for a project update Brad? I want to hear all about it! Also, come to Hampton next Sunday to watch historic sports sedans. On the straight after Barrel 51. 3rd gear has been causing me a bit of trouble for a while now, and it's getting worse. The weird thing is, that's the only spot that it happens at Hampton Downs, even though I change up into 3rd in two other spots.
Truenotch
Is the difference that you're turning the opposite direction while changing gears, or was it well into the straight? Could have a dead mount somewhere that flops the gearbox over when you turn left. Mazda boxes can be terrible at selecting third gear... Our MX5 box wore the selector for third gear down to a nub and then jammed in gear.
Archetype
I'm going dead straight at that point. I change mid corner turning hard left on the rising corner just after Gull (turn 2), and never have an issue there. I'll upload the video so you can see. I keep saying that I'll upload some videos, and I'll get there eventually. Did you see that I dropped the trailer off?
Truenotch
Yeah, I did notice that! It made for a great spot to hang out in the sun while nursing a 2-day hangover. Cheers for not breaking it!
drtdvl
Brent I want to see that hillclimb video!

If you look closely, you'll see there is a little mark on one of the wooden boards where the underneath of my car caught it. Dad thought it would be a good idea to drive the car on without tilting it, and the plastic cover on my fuel lines got ripped to pieces. Lucky the fuel lines didn't get damaged.

drtdvl
looking good man! So Hiwi road is next... which is basically 6 weeks away, i know a few of us have some serious work to do to get there but it's worth it if you can! This helps to give some idea of the elevation changes on this road - this should help with understanding the drop on the blind crest... I have a very strong feeling i won't be at Hiwi road. If you drop your worst score of 79 (motokhana) you should surpass my score! I'm out of contention for the Fiat Series overall, I'm 11 points behind Christo i think so there is no way i can beat that...

M_C
Cool, 1:27.11 I'm happy for that for a first outing. Seems I need to slap an XE into the escort as I only managed 1.32.86...

drtdvl
Well after some help from a friend last night, i'll be needing a new crank, big end bearings, and caps... The baffling in the sump failed (door broke) and allowed the oil to run away from the pickup and we all know what happens when engines don't get oil... So i'll give my mechanic a call and see what he's got laying about and how many banks i'll need to rob to get the parts, but i'm thinking i'll end up parking up the car until i get back from the worlds next year. mikuni
Oh that's disappointing! That settles it then - no moving parts in sumps if it can be avoided.
drtdvl
Sump guard after Sainsbury.... Might be something to look into if you want to road race... because yeah...

drtdvl
I do have to say, i'm not that big a fan of racing on the circuit after dealing with that starlet... I spend soo much of my focus on worrying about where he was and not wanting to crash into him that it really messed me up... I looked at my laptimes they where 1:25's when he was around and 1:22's when he wasn't around. I was thinking about doing the AES euro series, but i think i would end up being too slow worrying about not hitting others...
